Jai Mangal Sinha, Auteur ; A. S. Khanna Année de publication : 2009 Article en page(s) : p.353-368 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Tags : Waterborne coatings Nano-Al2O3 Corrosion resistance UV Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A modification in the alkyd based waterborne coatings was studied with the addition of 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3% nano-Al2O3. Corrosion performance of the nano-composite coatings were evaluated by applying these nanocomposites on mild steel substrate and exposing them to salt spray, humidity, and accelerated weathering. Mechanical properties were studied by subjecting the coating to scratch and abrasion test. The results showed that, with an increase in the concentration of nano-Al2O3 there was an improvement in the corrosion resistance, UV resistance, and mechanical properties of the coatings indicating the positive effect of addition of nano-Al2O3 particles in the coatings. Further, the transparency of the coating was not altered, maintaining the optical clarity of the coating. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Protecting steel structures against corrosion in highly aggressive environment involving harsh service conditions is always a challenging task. Coating technologists and researchers are in constant search of novel polymers and materials to design new generation high performance coatings that can fulfill the growing expectations of customers in terms of enhanced service life at reduced applied cost and compliance to ecological, application and safety needs. Of late extra corrosion resistance glass flake having high aspect ratio are becoming the integral part of many high performance coating due to its chemical inertness, low water vapour permeability, superior cathodic disbondment properties and abrasion resistance. Solvent free or high solid glass reinforced coatings can provide an effective solution against the premature failure of coating systems even under the most demanding service environments like splash zone in offshore refineries, underwater immersion, internal tank linings involving harsh chemicals. The present study will elaborate on the benefits of glass flake reinforcement in high solid epoxy coatings. Note de contenu : - Pigment – glass flake

The coating was modified with nano-Zn0 particles as pigments in different concentration (0.0.1 %, 0.02 % and 0.03 % by weight) to form a nano-composite coating. The nano-Zn0 modified composite coatings were applied on mild steel substrate by dipping. The coated panels were subjected to various test environments like salt spray, humidity and UV-weathering. The improvements in electrochemical performance of the composite coatings were evaluated using various analytical techniques like scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The result showed that, with increase in the concentration of nano-Zn0 there was an improvement in the corrosion resistance and UV resistance of the coatings indicating the positive effect of addition of nano-Zn0 particles to the coatings.
