Corrosion performance of the nano-composite coatings were evaluated by applying these nanocomposites on mild steel substrate and exposing them to salt spray, humidity, and accelerated weathering. Mechanical properties were studied by subjecting the coating to scratch and abrasion test. The results showed that, with an increase in the concentration of nano-Al2O3 there was an improvement in the corrosion resistance, UV resistance, and mechanical properties of the coatings indicating the positive effect of addition of nano-Al2O3 particles in the coatings. Further, the transparency of the coating was not altered, maintaining the optical clarity of the coating. It is comparatively inexpensive, versatile in application, strong and long lasting. Though the tensile strength of concrete is far lower than its compressive strength, the former may be buttressed with steel reinforcements. Over the last several decades this technique has greatly assisted in the expansion on the use of concrete as a material of construction. Currently, concrete is used in many buildings and structures all over the world, on walls, floors and roofs, roads, tanks, bridges, dams, pipes and many other applications. It is also used for chemical contairiments, in troughs and control basins, and as machinery mounts and structural steel supports. It is often pre-stressed and used in pre-fabricated tanks, pipes and channels, wall and roof slabs, beams, bricks and blocks. Note de contenu : - How coatings protect concrete
