Marines (peinture)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Heavily-fluorinated polyurethane coatings have been formulated and tested in demanding marine applications. In addition to the chemical and weather resistance typical of polyurethane coatings, these coatings have an anti-adhesive surface which permits the facile removal of water, ice and soil. This paper describes the chemistry of the polyol resins, the formulation of these resins into tough, anti-adhesive polyurethane coatings, and performance of these coatings in rigorous marine and industrial applications. Revêtements autostratifiants:Peinture autostratifianteIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A recently completed «Brite» project was successful in developing liquid, pigmented self-stratifying coatings. These coatings contain two or more resin components with different functions which spontaneously stratify after application to the substrate. A strong driving force for stratification is the surface energy difference between the two separate phases, but other properties inflence the degree of stratification. Coatings containing an epoxy resin component (high surface energy) with a low surface energy component such as floroethylyene/vinyl ether copolymers (FEVE) proved particularly successful combinations. In nonpigmented self-stratifying systems the degree of separation was great enough to cause delamination between the two resin layers. A single pigment, which is located in the basecoat layer of the final coating, was incorporated with success and decreased the tendency to delaminate. It was found that systems containing two pigments which were intended to stratify wery more unpredictable, with the pigments often ending up distributed throughout the film. Réduction des composés organiques volatilsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Formaldehyde is an important chemical, used widely within the industry for more than a century to manufacture building materials and household items. Numerous resins have been developed, including urea-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde and melamine-formaldehyde, which offer a wide range of beneficial properties at low cost and are, thus, used ubiquitously throughout the globe.
Subsequently, it was determined that some of these resins can break down, leading to elevated formaldehyde emissions. Sources other than resins include combustion, textiles, insulation, cleaning products and wood itself. It has been determined that even human breath contains 3-5ppbV per exhale. Significant sources for elevated levels within interior spaces are composite wood products made with adhesives that contain urea formaldehyde resin.Note de contenu : - Table 1 : Binder information for the comparison of Dow technology vs competitor technology

Résistance au cisaillementIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : SUSBIND (or SUStainable bio-BINDers for furniture) is a collaborative European research & innovation project addressing the need for more sustainable biobased binders used for wood-based panel boards in the European furniture industry. The aim of the SUSBIND project's highly sustainable biobased binders is to replace the conventional fossil-based binders currently used for wood-based panel boards in mass furniture products. By substituting fossil-based chemicals with those from renewable resources, the carbon footprint of furniture products will be reduced.
"The expertise brought together under the SUSBIND project will finally see development of a biobased binder able to compete on an industrial scale. As we become increasingly demanding of green production methods in all areas, SUSBIND will provide Europe with a competitive advantage," said the Scientific Co-ordinator of Cargill, Massimo Bregola.
As the climate changes, the furniture of the future will have to be sustainable, multi-functional and efficient, and today's designers and manufacturers are already starting to explore these areas, paving the way for future developments. The wood board industry already having the circular economy in mind, currently relies on the use of mainly fossil-based binders, largely formaldehyde-based binders. Several initiatives are underway to produce alternative binders from renewable resources, but a biobased binder is not yet available on an industrial scale.Note de contenu : - The SUSBIND project
