Comparisons with conventional PUDs show that the developmental products provide coatings with good water and acid etch resistance, hardness and flexibility. Preparation of the PUDs and initial tests are reported in this first section. A novel isocyanate-free polyurethane curing chemistry effectively decouples pot-life and cure speed. The coatings offer excellent chemical resistance, adhesion, mechanical properties and weatherability. Note de contenu : - Preparation of test coatings summarised
- Test equipment and procedures used
- New chemistry can be based on standard polyols
- Reversible reaction with alcohols extends pot-life

In this study, the seed oil based monomers were polymerized with low molecular weight diols to produce novel aliphatic polyester polyols with very low viscosities. The seed oil polyester polyols provide environmentally friendly (green) coating formulations with low volatile organic compound emissions which lead to coatings with superior physical properties, such as exceptional hydrolytic resistance and flexibility. From these polyester polyols, waterborne polyurethane dispersions were also developed with excellent stability resulting in coatings with superior physical properties (i.e., good toughness and abrasion resistance), and exceptional hydrolytic and acid resistance. Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Hybrid isocyanurate was prepared by solvent-free trimerization of hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and bis(isocyanatomethyl) cyclohexane (ADI), and characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), gas chromatography (GC), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI–MS). The results showed that ADI/HDI hybrid isocyanurate could be prepared with 2-hydroxypropyl-trimethyl-azanium catalyst at reaction temperatures between 50°C and 70°C. Both the GC and 1H NMR analyses identified a favorable linear relationship between the feed ratio of the starting monomers and the amount of each individual isocyanate incorporated into the oligomer (reaction ratio). Compared to coatings prepared from the mixture of ADI isocyanurate and HDI isocyanurate, the coatings from ADI/HDI hybrid isocyanurate possess higher distinctness of image. Titre : UV curable, liquid diacrylate monomers based on (cis,trans)-1,3/1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Kiran K. Baikerikar, Auteur ; Michael L. Tulchinsky, Auteur ; John Argyropoulos, Auteur Année de publication : 2010 Article en page(s) : p. 175-188 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Tags : 'Cyclohexane diméthanol diacrylate' Peinture 'Séchage UV' Cycloaliphatique Monomère Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Novel, liquid cycloaliphatic diacrylate monomers based on (cis,trans)-1,3/1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol have been synthesized for use in ultraviolet (UV)- and electron beam (EB)-cured coatings, inks, and adhesives. Diacrylate monomers prepared from this unique diol, and containing less than 15 wt% trans-1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol diacrylate, are liquid at room temperature and readily soluble in other acrylate monomers and oligomers (in contrast to diacrylates prepared from 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, which are solid). More importantly, UV-cured coatings based on (cis,trans)-1,3/1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol diacrylates (1,3/1,4-CHDMDA) show superior hardness, scratch resistance, and chemical resistance as compared to common diacrylate monomers used in the UV coating industry such as tripropylene glycol diacrylate, hexanediol diacrylate, dipropylene glycol diacrylate, and propoxylated neopentyl glycol diacrylate. Thus, this new monomer appears to be a promising material for enhancing the performance of radiation-cured coatings, inks, and adhesives applied to a variety of substrates, including plastic, paper, wood, metal, and glass. This paper will summarize the synthesis of liquid diacrylates from (cis,trans)-1,3/1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, as well as the performance properties of the corresponding UV-cured coatings.
