Here, we used sol–gel to synthesize three new coatings based on hydroxy-terminated PDMS crosslinked with 3-cyanopropyltriethoxysilane (CN) and phenyltriethoxysilane (PH) with three molar ratios of CN:PH (2:1, 1:1, and 1:2). The water contact angle of the coatings was below 90°. Cyanopropyl and phenyl groups were identified by infrared spectroscopy. The coatings were thermally stable up to 200°C. Also, they were stable to organic solvents and aqueous solutions at different pH. Glass stir bars were covered with the coatings to explore its potential application in stir-bar sorptive extraction. The test included polar antibiotics (sulfathiazole, sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim, and chloramphenicol) dissolved in spiked water (pH 4.5) and organic solvent. Different experimental conditions were used to explore the capacity of the coatings to extract and preconcentrate the antibiotics. Unsatisfactory results of enrichment effect were obtained in aqueous solutions of antibiotics. In organic medium, the antibiotics were extracted and preconcentrated with the three coatings.

Tannage Résumé : Neutralized chrome leathers (pH 6.3) were retanned with typical anionic retanning agents acrylic resin (AC), amino resin (AR) and mimosa extract (ME) alone or together. The isoelectric points (pIs) of the retanned leathers were determined using a zeta potential analyzer for solid- state materials, and the penetratiOn as well as the uptake of the retanning agents in the leathers was analyzed using a fluorescent tracing technique. It was found that the pIs of the surface layers of the leathers retanned with 3% of AC, AR or ME alone became below 5.4, while the pIs of their middle layers were still around 7.4. The pIs of the upper, the middle and the lower layers of the leather retanned with 3% AC, 3% AR and 3% ME together were very close and below 3.6. Additionally, greater penetrations and uptakes of the retanning agents were obtained after retanning with AC, AR and ME together compared to alone. These results indicate that retanning with more and various anionic retanning agents is very useful for a more thorough decrease in the pI of the chrome-tanned leather and favors the penetration and the uptake of the retanning agents in the leather. pHIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Conventional methods for chromium removal from industrial effluents may be limited by technological or economical constraints, especially when they are applied to dilute metal solutions. Thus, biotechnological processes, which are efficient at low metal concentrations and require the use of fewer chemicals, may play an important role. The chromium recovery proposed here is based on the specific uptake of this metal by acidophilic fungi. Fifty acidophilic fungal isolates from the Río Tinto basin, an extreme acidic environment, were tested. Most of them were resistant to Cr(III) and Cr(VI) solutions at concentrations up to 10 mmol/L. The influence of different experimental conditions was evaluated (medium concentration, kinetics, requirement of induction etc.). Fungal isolate 143 was able to remove 63% of Cr(III) at 0.1 mmol/L, 74% at 1 mmol/L and 21% at 10 mmol/L. These are the best Cr(III)-fungal-uptake results at acidic pH described in the literature so far. It should be possible to use these acidophilic fungi, for example in tannery wastewater, as they can resist chromium concentrations and pH values found in these effluents (between 6.5-7.5 mmol/L Cr (III) and pH as low as 3-4).
