Titre : Titanium dioxide pigment : Influence of TiO2 flocculation on the optical properties of alkyd emulsion paints Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : D. J. Rutherford, Auteur Année de publication : 2001 Article en page(s) : p. 18-27 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : TiO2 pigment flocculation has a detrimental effect on opacity and other paint properties. It has been established that TiO2 flocculation increases as a function of alkyd emulsion particle size and mathematical modelling work has been used to compare theoretical light scattering efficiency of alkyd emulsion paints with the measured scattering coefficients. An experimental proprietary flocculation resistant grade of TiO2, which provides excellent steric stabilisation by use of a novel surface coating, has been Incorporated into alkyd emulsion paints in order to demonstrate the beneficial effect on opacity when the level of TiO2 flocculation in alkyd emulsion paints is reduced. Note de contenu : - Steric or electrostatic repulsion stabilises TiO2 particles
- Alkyd emulsions were evaluated
- TiO2 grade has relatively little effect on opacity and gloss
- Acrylic gloss paints possess a higher level of paint flocculation
- Alkyd emulsion paints are more flocculated than solvent based paints
- Particle size of the alkyd emulsion affects pigment flocculation and opacity
- Reducing TiO2 pigment flocculation by improving spacing of TiO2 particles in alkyd emulsion paints
- Performance of pigment A in a standard alkyd emulsion with low particle size
- Performance of pigment A in an alkyd emulsion with larger particle size
- Different non-ionic surfactants have a little influence on pigment flocculation and opacity
- Refractive index of paint medium shows influence on opacity
- Opacity of commercial alkyd emulsion is lower than solvent based paints
- Flocculation gradient of alkyd emulsion are higher than solvent based paintsEn ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/13Qt8PgsTYzOBff3T9asXNuOgRyELDMEk/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10950

Titre : Special co-monomers for solvent-free decorative paints Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Hilde Hendrickx, Auteur ; Claude Nootens, Auteur Année de publication : 2001 Article en page(s) : p. 28-35 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Special monomers have been used to design high performance latices to be formulated in solvent-free and odour-free emulsion paints. These latices based on these special co-monomers have a low minimum film formation temperature of O°C. In addition, they have a particularly low content of residual free monomers and are prepared with environmentally friendly surfactants. These latices are thus particularly suitable for solvent-free and odour-free matt and silk emulsion paints. The resulting solvent-free emulsion paints exhibit high performance levels especially regarding scrub, mud cracking and blocking resistance. This work highlights the impact of the process used to manufacture the VV based latices on the resulting latex performance. Note de contenu : - Solvent-free decorative paints
- Low MMFT latex
- Low residual monomers
- Environmental friendly surfactant
- Solvent-free matt paint formulations
- Economy matt solvent-free interior wall paints
- Solvent-free silk paints

Titre : Self-crosslinking surfactant free acrylic dispersions Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Fred Bückmann, Auteur ; Ad Overbeek, Auteur ; Tijs Nabuurs, Auteur Année de publication : 2001 Article en page(s) : p. 53-60 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Surfactant free acrylic dispersions with a core-shell particle morphology are described, where the shell polymer is a self-crosslinking polymeric dispersant used for the stabilisation of the polymer particle. The phase ratio's and the magnitude in which the Tq's of the polymeric dispersant and the subsequently formed polymer differ were found to be of crucial importance to obtain a very low MFT and hence very good film formation combined with very high hardness and good anti blocking properties. In addition films cast from these dispersions have excellent chemical resistances which make these dispersions very useful as binders for high performance coating systems. Note de contenu : - Polymer entanglement is crucial for film formation
- Hydrophilic low molecular weight polymer backbones
- Sequential polymerisation for phase separated particle morphologies
- Crosslinking for improved chemical resistance
- The role of the surfactant
- Concept of surfactant free dispersions with self dispersing polymers
- Polymeric self-crosslinking surfactant
- Properties of polymeric self-crosslinking surfactant
- The effect on film formation
- Investigating model dispersions
