Revêtement émailIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Vitreous enamels represent a class of coatings with different technological properties, mainly appreciated for the protection they guarantee to the covered substrates. This review introduces enamel coatings, describing their production technologies and presenting the main properties affecting the enamel’s durability. Firstly, this review article introduces the most important studies regarding the improvement in abrasion resistance, highlighting both successes and failures. Afterward, the work reveals an outlook about the resistance to chemicals, underlining the good resistance of enamels toward acidic chemicals and discussing the results of studies aimed to improve their performances toward alkaline solutions. This review also considers the corrosion protection property of enamels, highlighting the high barrier effect they provide against the absorption of aggressive substances toward metal substrates. Finally, new perspectives and possible future research paths are presented, being aware that this kind of coating offers both good product protection and functional integrity over time.
- Degré d'efficacité de la protection antirouille, de 10 à 1 ;

PolyuréthanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Eight eco-friendly protective coatings (PU, PUA1, PUA3, PUA5, T30PUA5, T60PUA5, T90PUA5, and T120PUA5), were formulated based on series of laboratory-synthesized poly(urethane co-sulfone amide) copolymer dispersions (CPDs) as binders. The first four formulations were based on CPDs prepared by the copolymerization reaction of PU based on castor oil (CO) with aromatic polyamide sulfone (APAS) in four different concentrations (0%, 1%, 3%, and 5% solid to solid). The other four formulations were based on CPDs synthesized by the copolymerization reaction of PU based on transesterified CO with triethanolamine (CON) at different time intervals (30, 60, 90, and 120 min) with APAS at only one concentration. The effect of the degree of copolymerization and transesterification reactions on the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of the formulated coatings was studied. The results showed that the copolymerization and transesterification reactions led to an increase in the density and viscosity of the coating formulations. Additionally, the hardness of the dried films increased with copolymerization and transesterification reactions. The transesterification reaction decreased the adhesion force of the coated films. The copolymerization process caused a decrease in the water uptake of the coated films. However, the transesterification reaction increased the water uptake. The prepared formulations were applied on carbon steel substrates to estimate their efficiency as eco-friendly protective coatings for steel. The weight loss of the coated steel panels decreased with an increase in the amount of the copolymerized APAS within the PU chains, while it increased with an increase in the transesterification time of the CON used in the preparation of the coated copolymers. From the corrosion test results, PUA5 and T30PUA5 showed the best anticorrosive performance as estimated from the degree of rusting, weight loss measurements, and failure at scribe. SilanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Corrosion resistance and active protection performance of organic coatings can be improved by incorporation of corrosion inhibitor-loaded nanocontainers. Herein, 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (FTES) as a green corrosion inhibitor was encapsulated in hollow mesoporous silica (HMS). FTES-loaded HMS (FHMS) was embedded in an epoxy coating on the surface of the magnesium (Mg) alloy. Artificial defect in FHMS-loaded epoxy coating was made by needle punching. The long-term anticorrosion behavior and self-healing properties of the modified coating were evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). In all cases, FHMS can enhance corrosion resistance of the epoxy coating. Among all the FHMS-loaded coatings, the coating containing 0.5 wt% FHMS (FHMS-0.5%) still exhibits excellent corrosion protection performance after 2688 h of immersion. Meanwhile, it shows superior self-healing ability in the scratched areas. These are attributed to the fact that FTES released from HMS nanoparticles can interact with the epoxy coating and the Mg alloy substrate. Moreover, FTES silane can also form a crosslinked Si-O-Si network by itself.
