Test d'immersionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Over the past 20 years, the U.S. Navy has implemented the use of advanced ultra-high-solids (UHS) coatings for the protection of ship tanks and voids to extend the life of tank coatings. In areas of breakdown, the maintenance community needs a suitable touch-up and repair coating and as part of this ongoing effort, the Navy sought methods to improve basic coating test methods to better assess repair coating performance. This article describes this testing, the goal of which is to project greater than 10 years of service life. Note de contenu : - Fig. 1 : Initial coating deterioration at weld beads and edges

Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Pretreated steel samples have been coated with a layer (∼250 μm) of a metal-filled (Ni, Cu, Fe) epoxy resin (Dow 324) deposited by a spinning process. The corrosion behavior of these specimens in 3.5% NaCl has been investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, Tafel measurements, and dielectric measurements undertaken in the frequency range of 20-107 Hz. Correlation between the different approaches shows that coatings of epoxy resin composites filled with iron powder possessing higher ac resistance and lower capacitance are more protective than the pure epoxy resin coatings. On the contrary, copper or nickel powder addition leads to coatings which, though still protective, exhibit lower protection than the pure epoxy. Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : There is an increasing demand for painted galvanised steels for building applications worldwide, and great efforts are being made to improve the corrosion behaviour of coil coatings in order to reduce relevants costs. Evaluating corrosion resistance in painted coils was mainly done via the natural exposure test, following a standardised process at exposure sites, until accelerated corrosion tests such as salt spray and cyclic corrosion test were finally introduced. Theses tests reinforce the need for a laboratory method of predicting long term performance of corrosion-protective coatings in an accelerated timescale. Cut edge in painted coils is one of the main sites where coating failure initiates. Since the steel substrate in coil coating is fully exposed at the cut-edge, the galvanic coupling causes noticeable corrosion and paint delamination (a phenomenon reffered to as "undercutting") over time. Therefore, several studies in this area were performed to understand and, more importantly, tried to correlate lab results to long term weathering exposure performance. In this study, we have utilised an electrochemical scanning technique to analyse corrosion at the cut-edge of fully commercialised environmental-friendly coating systems and benchmarked these results natural exposure assessments for the first time. Test d'immersionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The aim of this study was to produce graphene oxide (GO) coatings on biodegradable AZ31B magnesium (Mg) alloy. GO was synthesized by improved Hummers’ method, and a suspension was prepared in deionized water by ultrasonication. GO coatings were developed on AZ31B Mg alloy by electrophoretic deposition (EPD). The EPD parameters, such as voltage and time, were optimized to obtain uniform GO coatings. Characterization was carried out using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and scanning electron microscopy. GO was found to have a thickness of approximately 0.7–1 nm as determined by AFM. Electrochemical behavior of coatings was evaluated by Tafel analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in Ringer’s lactate solution. GO coatings improved the corrosion resistance of the AZ31B Mg alloy by 16× in Ringer’s lactate solution as compared to bare Mg alloy.
