Surfactants réactifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A comparison of the role of conventional and reactive surfactants also known as surfmers in waterborne latexes and paints was investigated in this study. The systems studied were acrylate latexes prepared by semi¬continuous polymerization in different combinations of surfactants. The effect of surfactant nature on microstructure of latex and film properties were examined. The impact of surfactant migration and its absence was examined by water resistance, hydrophobicity and minimum film forming temperature in the prepared latex films. The nature and integrity of paint film formulated out of these latexes was also discussed. The impact on important properties like dirt pick up resistance, scrub resistance and gloss was illustrated. It has been concluded that reactive surfactants provide the scope of improving water resistance. VinyltriéthoxysilaneIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The acrylic emulsions were prepared successfully when the mixed monomers including dibutyl fumarate (DBF) and vinyl triethoxysilane (VTES) were initiated with KPS and emulsified with the mixed surfactants SR-10 and DOM. The prepared recipe was optimised and obtained as follows: the amount of emulsifiers was 5% ; the amount of initiator 0.4%, and amounts of the DBF and VETS were 5% and 2%, respectively. The prepared emulsion had good chemical and mechanical properties. The appearance of the resultant emulsion was translucent and light blue. The particle size of the resultant emulsion was in the range of 69nm to 105nm and the distribution was very narrow. Surfactants réactifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Fluorine-containing poly-styrene-acrylate (PSA) latex with core–shell structure was successfully synthesized by seeded semicontinuous emulsion polymerization using fluorine monomer Actyflon-G04 and reactive emulsifier DNS-86. The chemical composition, morphology of latex, and surface composition of the latex film were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectra, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. The stability properties of latex were tested by Ca2+, centrifugal and mechanical stability tests, and the latex film was studied by water contact angle, water absorption ratio, and thermo-gravimetric analysis. The results show that fluorine-containing PSA latex particles with crosslinked core and crosslinked shell structure have excellent stability properties, and the film of latex has excellent water repellency, thermal stability, and chemical resistance properties when the amount of fluorine monomer was only 8.0 wt %.
