Considerable efforts have been made to eliminate or reduce the solvent content of these formulations. The aim is to retain typical epoxy properties such as ease of application at room temperature, reliable protection thanks to excellent adhesion, high mechanical and chemical resistance. The article compares new cold-curing binders for high solids, waterborne and solvent-free epoxy coatings, and discusses the high standard that has been attained by epoxy systems to meet ecological requirements.
Without suitable coatings, the surfaces of most metals would be vulnerable to mecanical, thermical and chemical attack. Surface coatings therefore play an important protecting role. In view of the continually widening spectrum of applications - for example in transport, manufacturing or the household - ever more robust coating systems are required. This is particularly true of resistance to extreme heat and cold.
Silicone resins have key properties that make them equal to the growing demands. Their inorganic backbone of alternating silicon and oxygen atoms make silicone resins clearly superior to most organic resins.
Silres silicone resins forom Wacker Silicones are a good case in point. As binders combined with pigments in paints and insdustrial coatings, they defy temperatures of up to 650°C without losing their adhesive proeprties. They are also resistant to UV, weathering and solvents, have excellent colour fastness and can be blended readily with a number of organic binders.
Silres silicone resins have, therefore, been able to establish a presence in many applications where organic resins would be out of the question for thermal reasons. This applies particularly to automotive exhaust systems, aerospace heat shields and jet engines but also to various exterior coatings in the chemical industry or on baking trays, ovens and barbecues.Note de contenu : - Novel powder paint

- le modèle poupée russe: les plans de graphène sont arrangés en cylindres concentriques ;

Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In order to achieve covalent bond between multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and waterborne polyurethane (WPU), pristine MWCNTs were first oxidized by strong acids and then underwent ring-opening reaction with epoxy resin to chemically attach epoxy moiety onto their surface. For fabrication of the MWCNTs/WPU composite, the epoxy moiety facilitates the dispersion of MWCNTs in the polymer matrix and could react with carboxylic acid or amine groups in the WPU macromolecules to form a crosslinked structure in their composite, resulting in a great improvement in their mechanical property, thermal stability, water resistance, and electrical conductivity. As the content of MWCNTs reached 1.5 wt%, the tensile strength of functionalized MWCNTs composite was improved by about 108% and the electrical conductivity was increased by six orders of magnitude compared to that of the pristine MWCNTs composite. StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Directly correlating lifetime to coating composition by using standardized, artificial exposures, or even natural exposure, is often very difficult. However, significant progress can be made by breaking down the problem into smaller questions, which can be separately addressed. If one understands the physical parameters that affect end-use properties, then one can also group, and thus correlate, properties according to whether they depend on processes at the surface or in the bulk of a coating, or whether they depend on defects. A scheme is presented that shows how one can use knowledge from analytical physical or chemical materials science in a statistical model related to the “chemical paradigm.” Simple physical models that use this information, about the initial state of the coating and its rate of degradation, can be used to compare the performance of coatings and estimate, simply, service lifetime depending on the property of interest, in the environment of interest. One can see that different properties are sensitive in different ways to the degradation process and decay with a different rate. Thus, although properties may be determined by the same degradation process, and location within a coating, they do not correlate directly. These approaches show how to organize our knowledge of degradation processes, and environments, and be able to make some testable predictions on how coating properties deteriorate.
