PolypropylèneIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Isotactic polypropylene (iPP) precursor film with highly oriented lamellar structure was produced through a melt extrusion-annealing-uniaxial stretching (MAUS) process. The precursor films were annealed at various temperatures and the structure evolution of precursor films during various annealing temperatures and the pore formation of the annealed film during stretching were investigated. During annealing, recrystallized lamellar structure was formed to obtain “core-shell sandwich” structure. The thickness of newly formed lamellae increased with annealing temperature, which improved the ability of slipping resistance of the original lamellar structure during stretching. As the annealing temperature of precursor film increased, the micropore shape and diameter of the final membranes became more uniform. The porosity of the microporous membranes increased with increasing annealing temperature. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Material and membrane preparation - Characterization

PolypropylèneIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : In this work, thermoplastic elastomers based on polypropylene (PP) and recycled ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (r-EPDM) blends with polypropylene-graft-maleic anhydride (PP-g-MA) as modifier (0 to 8?wt.%) were prepared by melt compounding via twin-screw extrusion followed by injection molding. In particular, the effects of material composition and feeding strategies were studied. The morphological and mechanical properties of the blends were investigated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), tensile, flexural, impact, density and hardness tests. The results indicate that good dispersion and compatibility between PP and r-EPDM particles was obtained and that incorporation of r-EPDM leads to significant increase in PP impact strength. Finally, the feeding order of each component in the extruder was found to modify substantially the final morphology of the blend, thus having a direct influence on their mechanical properties.

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : The effect of nano-particle geometry on flow and recovery of polymer melts based on ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) was investigated. Two nano-particles, calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and montmorillonite clay, were used with concentrations between 2.5 and 15 % by weight. First, by using small amplitude oscillatory shear and transient step shear tests, the linear and non-linear response of the nano-composites was studied. Then, to examine the structure recovery, the same behavior was studied on pre-sheared samples. The linear and non-linear data revealed that the effect of nano-particles in material flow is more important for anisometric particles which can be attributed to their ability to form a fractal structure controlling the rheological properties while spherical particles are not able to form such networks. Recovery experiments revealed that while nano-composites containing spherical particles have relatively similar response in subsequent tests, the rheological properties decreased significantly for platelet particles. The recovery results were also interpreted based on a filler-network mechanism and the reduction of the nano effect for anisometric particles was related to the breakdown of the filler network. These observations were validated by morphological investigations. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTS : Materials and samples preparation - Morphological characterization - Rheological analysis

Vibrations (mécanique)Tags : 'Excitation pulsée' 'Echelle de ségrégation' 'Efficacité du mélange' 'Simulation numérique' Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Numerous vibration-assisted methods have been adopted to solve problems in polymer processing, but the introduction of vibration fields is typically done on small extruders or injectors in school laboratories and industrial research rooms, which profoundly limits the application of vibration technology. The purpose of this study is to put forward a simple vibration excitation method for all scale extruders or injection molding machines. To recover the mixing performance of that excitation method, a numerical investigation was carried out using the CFD software ANSYS POLYFLOW 19.2, and the analysis and comparison were made between the mixing performance of a simplified screw element with and without a sinusoidal pulsating speed field. The results showed that not all dynamic states with the superimposed excitation field have better mixing performance than the steady state without any pulsating field. Nevertheless, the introduction of a pulsating speed field under certain parameters setting can indeed enhance the stretching rate, reduce the separation scale, increase the mixing efficiency, and lower the screw force. These findings are of great importance and provide valuable references for the development and application of vibration-assisted molding technology in plastics machinery.
