Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Over the years questions have been raised by tanners concerning dyes which are based on benzidine and benzidine derivatives and also whether such dyes are present in various dye mixtures. It has now becom accepted that benzidine itself has a positive cancer response in humans.
While dyes based on benzidine are themselves not so critical, these dyes can undergo degradation by light or chemicals to form benzidine. Additionally in the production stage it is possible to have small quantities of benzidine present. Consequently it is very clear why these dyes based on benzidine have a high toxicity potential and are forbidden in many countries. More recent is the move to question the use of dyes containing certain benzidine derivatives, i.e. ortho-tolidine and ortho-dianisidine, since these intermediates test positive in some standard laboratory mutagenicity tests. The dyes containing the sulphonated benzidine moiety are not classified as mutagenic and cntinue to be in many companies' dye ranges. The sulphonation gives these more hydrophilic derivatives a quite different metabolic breakdown.
A relatively simple analytical test has been developed for benzidine and non-sulphonated diaminobiphenyl bases (e.g. ortho-tolidine, ortho-dianisidine, ortho-dichloro benzidine etc.) using thin layer chromatography. the method has been optimised to separate benzidine from the other diaminobiphenyl bases.

Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In this report insecticides, which have been shown to protect dried skins from attack by dermestes maculatus, and most of which are classed as safe for use in stored food grains FAO, have been evaluated for persistence during tannery processing.
In these trials key parameters are considered to be the quantity of insecticide remaining in the spent process liquors (including suspended solids) and the amount remaining in the pickled pelt. These results are summarised in tabular form below. The amounts of active insecticide on the skins when put into work were not constant and are not to be taken into account when comparing concentrations in the effluent.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bA0hP1WZKLQb1ivFp425aup4XVb94IK0/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=8557

Titre : Chitosan in leather production. Part 6 : The enhancement of uptake of anionic dyes on crusted and dyed-through leather Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Stephen M. Burkinshaw, Auteur ; M. F. Karim, Auteur Année de publication : 1993 Article en page(s) : p. 14-18 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Pretreatment with chitosan formate intensified the depth of shade of C. I. acid brown 167 and C. I. acid yellow 83 on dyed-through leather ; optical microscopy demonstrated that intensification of shade was evenly distributed within the leather which suggests that the large molecular size, cationic polymer penetrated, and was also evenly distributed within, the substrate. Treatment of crusted sheep skin and retanned goat skin crust with chitosan using a two instalment, sandwich dyeing method, enhanced the uptake of C. I. direct black 155 ; the extent of this intensification of shade was simular to that obtained using two commercial, cationic agents. Pretreatment with the polyaminosaccharide imparted a smooth and full character to each leather employed.
