The compound reacts rapidly with collagen to produce shrinkage temperatures in excess of 100°C. The increase in shrinkage temperature is due to reaction with the collagen carboxyl groups.The relatively high cost and uptakes have precluded its use as a practical tanning agent, but the unique complex indicates a great potential for studying collagen-transition metal interactions. This paper reviews previous work and presents some further results from work performed in the Procter Department from 1970-1973 and not published elsewhere. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : A trial was done on lambs which tested the effect of six topical treatments (a diazinon solution, the excipient of this solution, a high-cis cypermethrin pouron, two disinfectants, and a zinc sulphate solution) and shearing on the prevalence and severity of the whitespot defect on dyed crust leather produced from of whitespot. Zinc sulphate had no significant effect. All the treatments except zinc sulphate and the excipient also appeared to increase the severity of the whitespot. The trials also demonstrated that the efficiency of whitespot detection in pickled pelts is low. The product was described as a natural fat containing 95,6 % triglycerides. The composition of the triglyceride groups of differing unsaturation was established by argentation tlc and densitometry. The isolation of a new plasticiser was made with low energy consumption giving an inexpensive production process. The process is ecologically interesting due to the utilization of the rapidly decaying fur industry waste. The dyed pretreated samples were of a similar, but cleaner colour than their dyed, untreated counterparts. Pretreatment also enhanced the fulness and handle of both dyed substrates.
