PorositéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Removal of non-collagenous skin substances during the early stages of lambskin processing can be monitored by measuring the increasing porosity of the pelts. An experimental technique has been developed to measure skin porosity as a function of the maximum pressure required to drive air through the pelt from the flesh to the grain surface using a simple apparatus. Readings should be taken at the OSP of skins directly from processing. The technique can be used to monitor the progress of enzyme processing or the effects of different levels of application of enzyme treatments. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS :

Peau -- Maladies chez les animauxIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This work has shown that infection of the live anmial with the bacterium dermatophilus congolensis causes the pelt defect known as whitespot which is relatively common in New Zealand pelts. While either drying or antibiotic treatment were effective inhealing the clinical infections, the pelt defect persisted for at least six weeks after treatment in a number of cases. Titre : The effect of lamb treatments on whitespot prevalence in dyed crust leather Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Sue M. Cooper, Auteur ; A. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : A trial was done on lambs which tested the effect of six topical treatments (a diazinon solution, the excipient of this solution, a high-cis cypermethrin pouron, two disinfectants, and a zinc sulphate solution) and shearing on the prevalence and severity of the whitespot defect on dyed crust leather produced from of whitespot. Zinc sulphate had no significant effect. All the treatments except zinc sulphate and the excipient also appeared to increase the severity of the whitespot. The trials also demonstrated that the efficiency of whitespot detection in pickled pelts is low.
