ViscositéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Fatliquors are involved in leather making process to separate fibres of leather from each other and impart soft hand feeling. Fatliquors are chemically modifications of vegetable and animal oils. Castor oil is suitable as a basic raw material for the preparation of fatliquor due to hydroxyl functionality on ricinoleic acid. In this paper, castor ail based synthetic fatliquors were synthesised by two step processes. In a first step castor oil is condensed with maleic anhydride at varying mole ratio from 1 to 3. In the second step castor maleic adduct was sulphited with sodium metabisulphite at varying mole ratios from zero to 1.5. Solubility behaviour with viscosity changes were observed at différent mole ratios of reactants. Structural changes in synthetic fatliquors were studied by FTIR spectroscopy.
Fatliquoring properties at the stabilised fatliquors were comparatively evaluated on goat crust leather. Comparative analysis at leather softness, lear and tensile strengths, elongation at break, light fastness and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the fatliquored feathers were studied and comparatively better results were found in leather using the synthetic fatliquor which was synthesised at optimal conditions of castor ail to maleic anhydride mole ratio of 1:1.5 and further sulphitation of the castor maleic adduct with sodium metabisulphite at a mole ratio of 1.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Chemicals - Apparatus - Preparation of sulphited castor maleic condensate based synthetic fatliquor

The dispersion containing DEA to maleic anhydride at molar ratio of 2:1 exhibited much smaller particle size and narrower size distribution than that containing DEA to maleic anhydride at molar ratio of 1:1, as measured by a laser diffraction particle size analyzer. A more compact organic layer was supposed to be formed by the dispersion composed of smaller size and narrower size distribution particles on the galvanized sheet, which exhibited better anticorrosive properties. This compact layer slowed down the electrolyte penetration onto the metal surface such that the life span of the metal could be prolonged, which was reflected in the increase in corrosion potential as measured by DC polarization, higher impedance during immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution as measured by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and improved durability in harsh environment as observed by images after salt spray tests. ViscositéIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Nanocomposites based on melt blending of an organoclay and a thermoplastic matrix have end-use properties directly controlled by the state of dispersion of the clay and the resulting nanostructure. It is thus very important to be able to correctly quantify the levels of intercalation and exfoliation of these systems. For the exfoliation, rheological measurements in small amplitude oscillatory shear are very powerful because they put clearly in evidence the interactions between nanofillers. We show in this paper how it is possible to interpret the experimental results, we indicate the advantages and drawbacks of current methods used in the literature and we strongly suggest to use the melt yield stress to characterize exfoliation level.

Solvants organiquesIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : New rosin-based photoactive polyamide imides (PAI-a and PAI-b) with a large second-order nonlinear optical coefficient and photo induced were synthesized by the polycondensation of rosin-maleic anhydride adduct (RMA) with azo-dye diamines . Due to the bulky alicyclic structure of the rosin, these polymers were highl y soluble in organic solvents and could easily be processed by spin¬coating into thin films of high optical quality. Fabricated polymer films were very smooth, tough, adhesive to the substrate, and optically clear.
