Revêtement émailIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Vitreous enamels represent a class of coatings with different technological properties, mainly appreciated for the protection they guarantee to the covered substrates. This review introduces enamel coatings, describing their production technologies and presenting the main properties affecting the enamel’s durability. Firstly, this review article introduces the most important studies regarding the improvement in abrasion resistance, highlighting both successes and failures. Afterward, the work reveals an outlook about the resistance to chemicals, underlining the good resistance of enamels toward acidic chemicals and discussing the results of studies aimed to improve their performances toward alkaline solutions. This review also considers the corrosion protection property of enamels, highlighting the high barrier effect they provide against the absorption of aggressive substances toward metal substrates. Finally, new perspectives and possible future research paths are presented, being aware that this kind of coating offers both good product protection and functional integrity over time. Revêtements en phase aqueuse -- Additifs:Peinture en phase aqueuse -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The development of an effective waterborne technology for exterior paints has become a significant challenge in the architectural coatings market due to the growing expectations of end users (total cost of ownership), diversification of materials used for exterior walls and siding, and the continuous trend towards VOC reduction. This article describes a new product based on our company's Low Exudation Binder (LEB) platform, designed for formulation of exterior paints, where pure acrylic binders are typically used for reasons of excellent color retention in very deep tones. The new binder possesses the advantages common to those of the LEB technology, namely very low surfactant leaching, excellent resistance to efflorescence, and long-term adhesion, and in addition, very early rain resistance, allowing the application window to be extended. Furthermore, paints formulated with the new binder have very low VOC emissions, and are in-line with all the most stringent, current environmental requirements.

Nano poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE was prepared by a forced impact method from PTFE powder. The PTFE was characterised by dynamic light scattering, particle-size analysis. To improve the surface interactivity and dispersibility of nano-PTFE, it was treated with sodium metal in liquid ammonia. The PTFE material was incorporated in a coating formulation and coating composite characterised by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). In this work, the PTFE was incorporated into the coating at various loadings and its effect on vairous properties was studied. It was observed that the scratch resistance and chemical resistance were increased whilst the critical surface tension and the coefficient of friction were decreased.
