Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Pigments based on thin mica platelets coated with metal oxides are important types of pearlescent pigments today. They show many advantages, e.g. excellent interference colours and good application behaviour. Two new synthetic materials can now be used, besides mica, as substrates for effect pigments. New colouristic effects can be realized by coating the silica or alumina flakes with highly refractive metal oxides such as titanium dioxide or iron oxide. The theory, production and properties of the new effect pigments were already discussed [81. In this new paper the results of technical work on the incorporation, application and colour formulation of the new effect piqments are presented. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Coating properties such as flexibility, hardness, adhesion, drying time, viscosity and chemical resistance were studied for LC polymers and their parent acrylic copolymers. The potentiality of liquid crystalline acrylic copolymers for coating applications were assessed and the data so obtained shows that LC polymers possess 100% adhesion, hardness between H -4H, drying time in the range of 4-12 h, viscosity between 89-79 cps and better chemical resistance. It has been observed that the mesogenic group and flexible spacer enhanced the coatinq property of parent acrylic copolymers. Note de contenu : - The experiment

Titre : Drying/curing control Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Vladimir V. Verkholantsev, Auteur Année de publication : 2000 Article en page(s) : p. 44-53 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Unlike the setting process, film drying and curing are controlled mainly by chemically reactive coating additives and curing agents. The most important groups of additives controllinq chemical processes during film formation are driers, initiators, and catalysts, with the function to initiate or accelerate drying and curing reactions. Photoinitiators provide clear and not heavily pigmented coatings and thin layers of inks with ability for curing when subjected to a sufficient UV radiation. Crosslinkers constitute a group of specific curing agents for controlled chemical post-cure, that allows significant improvement in service properties for coatinqs based on thermoplastic polymers. Water scavengers, and anti-skinning agents can be also attributed to the reactive-type additives to control film forming processes. Note de contenu : - Driers (siccatives)

He, Auteur Année de publication : 2000 Article en page(s) : p. 54-59 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Formulation optimisation is one of the more important steps in the development of surface coating systems. Several commercially available computer software packages that can be used to assist the formulation optimisation have been developed, provided that sufficient data are available. For systems having complex behaviour, more flexible techniques are needed. The approach that forms the basis of this paper is based on spline interpolations. Thus, the more complex behaviour of coating systems can be simulated and interpreted. The efficiency and the reliability of the models that have been developed have been evaluated using data that are relevant to anticorrosion coating systems.
