Vitamine C -- SynthèseIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant molecule that can be used topically to reduce the changes associated with photoageing. It can also be used for the treatment of hyperpigmentation. Because it is unstable and difficult to deliver into the dermis in the optimum dosage, research is being directed to finding stable compounds and newer methods of delivery (lipid-based micro and nano carrier systems) of vitamin C into the dermis.
Solvants organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Volatile methylsiloxanes, which were excluded from the definition of VOC by the EPA in late 1994, can now be considered alternative solvents for protective coatings. The decision by the EPA was based on research concluding that these products did not contribute to ground-level ozone formation.
Both linear and cyclic volatile methylsiloxanes (VMS) have low solvency when tested with silicone resins and should be classified as diluents. When added to selected silicone resins containing strong solvents, the VMS fluids either reduce viscosity with little change in VOC content or reduce VOC content by acting as a partial replacement with strong solvents.
Two specific products - octamethyltrisiloxane (L-3) and octamethyltetrasiloxane (C-4) - were chosen as representative linear and cyclic VMS products. VOC content was reduced in three different paint systems using two VMS products. Two paint systems were sprayed on steel substrates and did not show any evidence of wetting problems.
Based on solubility and cost, the cyclic product octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane is the VMS product of choice and should be considered when there is a need to reduce VOC content of solvent-based paint systems.Note de contenu : - VOLATILE METHYLSILOXANES

Perlite (roche)
Transparence (optique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The author discusses the benefits of using perlite in wood clear coats.
Matting in wood clear coats is generally achieved with aggregated synthetic silica. Due to highly porous cluster of particles of synthetic silica, in which the cluster diameter is typically 5-10µm, these materials provide matting at very low dosage. Matting efficiency of silica mainly depends on the particle volume concentration. A higher concentration increases the micro-roughness of the surface, leading to greater matting.
Perlite is an amorphous volcanic rock, which is formed by the rapid cooling of siliceous magma or lava. Perlite ore is a hydrated natural glass, containing typically about 72-75% of SiO2. The hydration occurs from absorption of near-surface water into the glass, resulting in 2-5% of bonded water within its structure. When heated rapidly to its softening temperature (approximately 900°C) the water molecules trapped in the rock evaporate and expand the particles from five to 30 times to their original volume. These expanded particles are actually groups of small rounded, light and insulating glass particles. Ground and milled perlite particels offer several different properties in paint and coatings, most notably : inertness ; hardness and matting.Note de contenu : - Formulations
