TannageIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The continuous development of leather substitutes, including poromerics and coated fabrics, the increased price of hides, greater quantities of shoe imports, and, finally, the considerably higher cost of U.S. labor have forced American tanners to re-evaluate completely their tannery concepts. Today, to be competitive with European and other foreign tanneries, South American, for instance, we must have modern processes providing higher productivity and better leather quality.
Therefore, most of the larger tanneries are now involved in rationalizing their production, and in simplifying and modernizing their processes. Some years ago, a two-day beamhouse lime split process, followed by a bate-pickle-and-chrome-tan run in drums, over a period of 15 to 17 hours, would be considered a classical procedure. In the meantime, however, almost all tanneries have attempted to shorten their processes and at the same time change their system to blue splitting.Note de contenu : - Rapid unhairing processes

(Wikipedia)

Produits chimiques -- Consommation -- RéductionIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Unhairing is one of the major steps of the leather tanning process which removes the hairs, epidermis and to some degree inter-fibrillary proteins. This process needs high amounts of chemicals that cause environmental difficulties. On the other hand, these chemicals are available in the wastewater of the Merox unit of Kermanshah Refinery. For reducing chemical consumption and decreasing environment pollution, we used the aforementioned wastewater for bovine unhairing. A unhairing liquor was prepared in order to unhair skins and different parameters such as the concentration of CaCO3 and Na2S, process time, and temperature were considered to evaluate their impact on the unhairing process and to obtain optimum condition. Response surface methodology based on Box-Behnken design was applied to model the unhairing efficiency in terms of four independent variables. A second-order polynomial equation was suggested to predict the response with high certainty. ANOVA revealed the validity and importance of that model by P-value of < 0.0001, large F-values, and, R2 of 98.8. The maximum unhairing efficiency of about 98.5 % was obtained under the optimum condition of 1.7 wt% Na2S, 5.8 wt% CaCO3, 114 min process time and 29.5 ºC. Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : A novel method for the immobilization of an enzyme was established by using solid waste from tanneries as the carrier. A series of inorganic and organic carriers with good behaviours were evaluated in this context. The results showed that the enzyme immobilization efficiency was optimal when the enzyme offer, reaction temperature, pH, ionic strength and time were set at 335mg enzyme per g carrier, 25°C, 6.5, 0.1mol/L and 60 minutes, respectively. The optimal temperature and pH of the immobilized enzyme in terms of protease were 55°C and 8.0, respectively, similar to that for the free enzyme. The immobilized enzyme remained 64% of its original activity after keeping at 55°C for 3 hours, while the free enzyme lost nearly 54% under the same conditions, indicating the improvement of enzyme thermal stability after enzyme immobilization. Furthermore, the leather industry oriented application of the immobilized enzyme was intended for the dehairing of cattle hide. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Methods
