Index. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : Aramids are important high-performance fibers, but their usefulness is limited by the comparatively fast UV degradation of the fiber polymers. In addition, aramids are difficult to dye, which increases the cost and complexity of the dyeing procedures and limits the available colors and shades. In the study presented here, it was shown that the finishing of aramids with polyvinylamine improves their dyeability with acidic and reactive dyes. In addition, the polyamine coating was also useful for improving the wash-fastness of UV absorbers coated onto the textiles. Aramids that were finished with UV absorbers showed improved mechanical properties after irradiation with a UV broadband lamp for several hours compared to unmodified samples. Accordingly, this approach represents an interesting starting point for further optimization studies towards aramid textiles with improved UV stability. Teinture -- Fibres textiles synthétiquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A new sorption mechanism of polyester dyeing with disperse dyes in water is proposed. It is considered dye aggregates could not be sorbed unless they turn into single molecules. However, this theory could not explain numerous sorption phenomena: sorption continues when equilibrium dye concentration exceeds its solubility; dyeing at long liquor ratio, using microencapsulated or crystal-modified dyes do not change concentration of single dye molecules or dye solubility, but increase sorption rate and quantity in a fixed time. We demonstrate that both single and aggregated dye molecules could be sorbed using CI Disperse Blue 56. Because of the large size and low diffusion rate, dye aggregates could temporarily block sorption channel and prevent entry of other dyes. Therefore, only using extra more dyes could get a dark colour. Series of approaches could be proposed to reduce or eliminate the sorption problems caused by aggregates using the new sorption mechanism. Teinture -- Fibres textiles synthétiquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Meta-aramid fibre is very difficult to dye because of its very high crystallinity. The major issues with dyeing meta-aramid fibre are its selective dyeability with a particular class of dye and poor light fastness, especially with basic dyes, which is not acceptable. In this work, various dyeing trials of meta-aramid fabric with two commercial basic dyes, Bezacryl Golden Yellow GL 200 and Bezacryl Blue FBS, were conducted on high temperature–high pressure and infrared dyeing machines. To improve the light fastness of dyed samples, titanium dioxode nanoparticles were applied on dyed fabric using a layer-by-layer technique. Fastness properties such as light, wash and rubbing were checked for untreated and titanium dioxode-treated samples. Titanium dioxode application on dyed material improved the light fastness of Bezacryl Golden Yellow-dyed samples significantly, and Bezacryl Blue FBS also showed an improved rating compared with that previously reported. Improvement in light fastness is selective but it is still a novel and viable route to improve the light fastness of dyed meta-aramid fabrics.

Teinture -- Fibres textiles synthétiquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In this study, 4-amino-9-methoxypropylnaphthalimide fluorescent dye (dye 1) was reacted with poly(amidoamine) dendrimer G = ?0.5 to prepare a naphthalimide–dendrimer hybrid dye (dye 2). The chemical structures of the synthesised dyes were confirmed by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The solvatochromism of the dyes was evaluated in various solvents with respect to visible absorption properties, and positive solvatochromism was observed by solvent polarity change from chloroform to ethanol. The dyeing ability of the synthesised dyes was investigated by their application onto nylon fabric, and nylon substrates dyed with dye 2 exhibited marked enhancement both in terms of colour strength and general fastness properties. The results of this study clearly demonstrated the high potential and performance of dye 2 as a novel promising fluorescent dye as compared with dye 1. Overall, it was inferred that the modification of the naphthalimide fluorescent dye with poly(amidoamine) denderimer could markedly improve the dyeing and fastness properties of the naphthalimide fluorescent dye on nylon fabrics. Textiles et tissus -- Propriétés mécaniquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The influence of grafting and grafting–curing of acrylic acid on the colour fastness of nylon-6 fabric dyed with an acid dye of low wash fastness was investigated. The variables involved in grafting were initially optimised for pristine nylon-6 fabric prior to grafting the same monomer onto the dyed fabrics. The highest graft yield achieved for the pristine and dyed nylon-6 fabrics was 44 and 14% respectively. Grey scale testing and colorimetric analysis revealed that the highest colour fastness and the smallest drop in colour strength belonged to the dyed–grafted–cured nylon-6 fabric. The colour components were measured, and the total colour difference of each sample after five washing cycles was computed. The specific colour difference showed that the implementation of either grafting or grafting–curing processes will alter the reference colour of the dyed fabric. The tensile strength of the grafted and grafted–cured fabrics was respectively 2.7 and 6.3% lower than that of dyed nylon-6.
