The morphology of the particles and chemical composition and thermal stability of both the particles and the resin were evaluated. Tensile and flexural properties of the composites exhibited significant improvements with increasing resin content, attributed to good bonding between the resin and the particles and the presence of fewer voids in the composites as well as to the microstructural homogeneity, as corroborated by the fractographic studies. The thermal stability of the composites is influenced by the proportion of particles, while the swelling characteristics are affected by the amount of resin. The results taken together suggest that the developed composite can be used for various applications. Note de contenu : - Materials and methods

Despite such positive properties, thermoplastic materials have a negative side, which is their high melt viscosity. The solution to this problem can be achieved by using hybrid yarns in which reinforcement and matrix fibers are homogeneously mixed together. In this work, the aim was to investigate the mechanical properties of thermoplastic composites to be prepared using continuous glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (CGF/PET) hybrid yarns in different proportions by volume. CGF/PET hybrid yarns containing glass fiber in different volumes (45% and 55%) were produced, woven and then transformed into thermoplastic composite test plates using hot press. Tensile, 3 point bending and impact tests were used to investigate the mechanical properties. Note de contenu : - Raw materials

Matériaux -- AllègementIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Since its founding in 2011, Bcomp has been focusing on understanding the specificity of natural fibres and their composites, and developing solutions that bring striking benefits to the end product — in addition to the lower ecological footprint. One of the company's main focuses has been to demonstrate that flax composites offer a credible alternative to synthetic fibre composites, even outperforming carbon fibre composite solutions in specific cases. The sports industry, just like the motor sports sector, has much to gain from adopting natural fibre composites. Note de contenu : - Well-known concepts

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The mechanism of a polyurea coating on the flexural strength of coated ceramic tiles was studied by three-point bending together with FEM simulation. The influence of Young’s modulus and the coating position of the polyurea on the coated ceramic sample were investigated. The back-coated ceramic with lower modulus polyurea (PUR240 MPa) could show higher flexural strength due to the cushion effect that reduces tensile stress around the bottom center of the substrate. The higher modulus polyurea coating (PUR866 MPa) has a significant influence on the flexural strength of the coated ceramic sample. In back-coating, the higher modulus coating increased the flexural strength of the coated ceramic sample by nearly twofold, compared to lower modulus. This higher modulus coating enhanced the stress distribution as well as storage energy in the sample. According to the results of the FEM simulation, the mechanism which influences the stress distribution within samples during the three-point bending test was investigated. The cushion effect shows a main contribution in stress distribution by a lower modulus coating. The cushion effect occurs near the supporting pins and contributes to the stress dissipation and the reduction of stress concentration at the center-bottom of the substrate. In contrast, a thickening effect plays an important role in the case of higher modulus polyurea coatings. The center-back-coated with higher modulus polyurea acts to increase the thickness of the ceramics and dominates the effect on the flexural strength of the coated ceramic sample.
