Particularly, the drying behavior of high-solids alkyd systems applied under adverse conditions may be improved distinctly. Besides the ether- and peroxy-crosslinks resulting from oxidative drying, coordinative crosslinking occurs. However, exterior weathering of paint films containing Al-complexes frequently results in severe embrittlement. In order to cope with these problems, drying and aging of alkyds and Al-complexes were investigated. All ligands in the complex appeared to get lost during drying, a probable cause of poor weathering performance. Using specially developed alkyd paints for Al-compounds, possible ways of controlling embrittlement are discussed. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Sample preparation - Ligands analysis

Revêtements -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : An active area of technology development is the design of improved epoxy/amine binder systems for low temperature cure coatings. Low temperature cure epoxy coatings allow applicators to extend the painting season because coatings can be applied even when the temperature falls below 50°F. This paper begins with a basic overview of the curing agent technologies available for low temperature epoxy/amine coatings. The coatings performance of several low temperature curatives with standard liquid epoxy resin is studied in this work. Differential scanning calorimetry is used to monitor the binder systems' cure rate at 40°F over a 14-day period. The coatings performance in clear varnish formulations is presented ; cured at standard ambient conditions (77°F, 55% RH) and at sub-ambient, high humidity conditions (50°F, 90% relative humidity and 40°F, 80% relative humidity). This study concludes with evaluation ofa new approach to low temperature cure epoxy coatings. This approach uses low temperature curatives in combination with polyacrylated epoxy resins. The results show that these new binder systems give improved clarity, blush resistance, and cure development under low temperature, high humidity conditions. Revêtements -- Additifs:Peinture -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Coatings are complex composites designed to have a stable shelf-life, apply easily to a substrate and provide lasting durability in varied environments. These performance criteria require disparate materials to be finely dispersed and work cohesively, which presents a major challenge as composites can be unstable and ultimately fail at points of inconsistency. To address this, the first thing a new paint chemist learns is that wetting agents are mandatory in allowing mineral fillers to disperse properly. Without them, these inorganic particles generally reject their organic media, agglomerate and settle out. It would be imprudent to forgo wetting agents.
Another well-known, tried-and-true technique to stabilise composites and improve their uniformity is to use high-quality, gel-grade attapulgite mineral products. They have been common in paint applications for several decades as thixotropic thickeners for low-shear flow and levelling, sag resistance and other rheology benefits. However, a seemingly forgotten higher value is their function as excellent stabilisers due to their unique colloidal lathe-shaped particles forming a lattice structure. This keeps liquids and particles more evenly dispersed and suspended, generating important benefits well beyond rheological properties.
This article gives a brief history of attapulgite, a description of its mechanism that sets it apart from other thixotropic thickeners and stabilisers, and discusses its performance benefits in coatings.Note de contenu : - Chemistry and morphology

Surfaces -- NettoyageIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Stay-clean and easy-to-clean surface properties keep surfaces free of contamination from fingerprints and dirt.
Achieving oil and water repellency on surfaces is easily obtained with the use of fluoroalkyl-modified silanes. While fluoroalkyl-modified silanes exhibit high static and advancing water and oil contact angles, their low receding contact angles mean the oil and water will not readily slide over the treated surface. The resulting effect of these characteristics yields a surface that is both easy to clean and stays clean longer. Ultimately, modified perfluoropolyether silanes give high static and advancing water and oil contact angles as well as high receding contact angles resulting in a very low sliding angle. The influence of structure modification of the silane and the perfluoropolyether component is examined. Their impact on performance by application method is also discussed.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DVo4NyO6UUFVon3LF5Itb6sQ8xXOr-2t/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27175
