Fuel costs represent the highest of all the operating costs of an aircraft. Unsurprisingly, the industry is mustering efforts to reduce the weight of aircraft, which has a direct impact on airline economics and on the environment. In passenger aircraft, every kilogram of weight reduction counts. Estimates suggest that a weight reduction of 100 kg in an average airliner results in a yearly fuel saving of about 19000 litres, thereby reducing CO2 emissions. Therefore, the use of lightweight, high-strength materials has become essential for high-end applications in the aviation industry. Note de contenu : - We are set to witness a new begining
