Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Today's coatings industry is driven by three main factors: technological advancement, environmental compliance, and economical performance. Light stabilizer chemistry has advanced over the years and has entered a new era with the introduction of products relating to these factors. Advanced triazines take advantage of the known high epsilon values as well as photopermanence and have extended now to longer wavelengths with even higher absorption characteristics. The latest hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) are able to react into resin technologies so that their migration is limited to the layer they are intended to protect. Finally a new technology has been developed to render these intrinsically hydrophobic chemistries compatible with water for enhanced performance and ease of use in today's low-VOC systems. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Silver-based antimicrobials have increased in popularity due to their high efficacy against bacteria and low ecotoxicity. There is growing interest in using them for antimicrobial coatings. However, formulation of these products into traditional coating systems can present some unique challenges, including film discoloration, loss of gloss, poor rheology, and shelf stability. This article presents a systematic study of the incorporation of silver-based antimicrobials into starting point formulations of different industrial and decorative coatings, with a focus on optimizing dispersion, storage stability, and film clarity of the coating formulation. Antimicrobial efficacy against bacteria of common interest are also presented for the optimized coating formulations. Note de contenu : - Desirable antimicrobial properties

Composites à fibres -- Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Wood-plastic composite (WPC) materials have found extensive use in the construction of residential decks. Although recognized as a low-maintenance product WPC lumber is not immune to the effects of weathering. Sunlight and water exposure can lead to color change and physical degradation. Previous WPC preservation studies have evaluated the effectiveness of light stabilizers incorporated during the wood fiber/thermoplastic compounding process. This study presents the results of accelerated exposure tests of WPC materials preserved by the application of a light-stabilised clearcoat.
