When formulating high-quality paints and coatings, the addition of functional additives is indispensable. Modern additives have an effective impact even if only small quantities are involved. The continuous further development of new coating systems and binders as well as the increase in requirements in terms of regulations and guidelines make the condinuous further development of existing additives inevitable. |

- Wetting and defoaming
- New slip additive - an allrounder
- New easy-to-clean additive - permanence and surface quality
- Fig. 1 : Comparison of the wetting agent in aqueous solution with respect to the surface tension (IFT), the contact angle to teflon (based on DIN55660) and the foaming behavior
- Fig. 2 : Comparison on the investigated wetting agents in various aqueous binders with respect to surface tension (IFT), the contact angle on teflon and the foaming behavior in a polyurethand dispersion
- Fig. 3 : Wetting and foaming behavior in an acrylate-based stoving enamel : cratering of the control without wetting agent, foaming with a strong surface-active wetting agent, defect-free surface with new wetting agent. Application : 100µm wet film thickness on glass
- Fig. 4 : 325x magnification of the surface of a cured epoxy overpring varnish using a digital microscop : without, with new slip additive, schematic representation of two surfaces without and with functional polysiloxane, which is anchored in the coating film via the organic functionalization
- Fig. 5 : Comparison of the sliding friction coefficient µo of two siloxane-based slip agents (1% in an epoxy overprint varnish) against the control without slip agent by means of an automated sliding friction test. Test with a 1kg test specimen based on ISO 8295
- Fig. 6 : Multifunctional propertie sof the new slip additive using the example of an epoxy overprint varnish. Shown is the foam behavior and the assessment of the appearance (reflectometric measurement at 20° angle according to DIN 67530 : 1982-01 and crater surface density (> ( / cm2 = rating "many")
- Fig. 7 : Schematic representation of the dirt repellency of the easy-to-clean additive and the permanence of the effect by anchoring via reactive groups in a suitable binder matrix
- Fig. 8 : Surface energy and contact angle measurement with test liquids on a two-component polyurethane topcoat (Q-panel, 1% additive). In addition, the sliding friction force is specified on the unpolluted application
- Fig. 9 : Market test and spray paint release without additive and with 1% easy-to-clean additive. 2-component automotive topcoat on Q-panel with permanent marker and silver paint marker, magnified three times. White pigmented 2-component polyurethane industrial paint, recoated with an acrylic resin deco spray paint followed by a tape release test |
