The restes demonstrated that the bioflocculant prepared with Bacillus subtilis was able to treat total nitrogen, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and colour, successfully removing the compounds from tannery wastewater. Component analysis revealed that the bioflocculant contained saccharides, proteins, glycoproteins, osamines, and fats ; the bioflocculant did not contain nucleic acid. It is expected that these results will contribute to future research into the application and the mechanism by which bioflocculants remove contaminants from tannery wastewater. The results showed that saccharides were associated with flocculation. However, proteins had a weak effect on flocculation, and fats, osamines and glycoproteins had no effect. The findings elucidated the role of each ingredient in the removal of contaminants from tannery wastewater, providing a basic for understanding the mechanism of action of bioflocculants in the treatment of tannery wastewater. Simulation par ordinateurIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In this paper, a single bioflocculant was used to treat nitrogen in tannery wastewater. At different processing time points, the nitrogen concentrations for the total nitrogen, ammonia, Kjeldahl nitrogen, nitrate, and nitrite were determined. Furthermore, a computer simulation was performed to derive the experience dynamic equations.
The established dynamic equations can be used to predict the removal capacity of the total nitrogen, ammonia, Kjeldahl nitrogen, nitrate, and nitrite in the tannery wastewater treated with the biofloccufant, calculate the optimum processing time, and cut costs. In addition, these equations establish a foundation for studying the mechanism underlying this bioflocculant treatment for tannery wastewater.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Materials - Strain - Media preparation - Bioflocculant preparation - Tannery wastewater treatment by the bioflocculant

SynergieIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : synergism index (SI, Formula (1)) and graphical method (Fig. 1) expressed by the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) are often used to evaluate the type of action of combined leather fungicides. The determination of MIC is a complicated and time-consuming process and the exact value is difficult to determine, so a rapid, simple method would be useful to evaluate synergistic combinations. In this study, a formula of the synergism index (SI*, Formula (3)) and the graphical method (Fig. 3) expressed by the diameters of inhibition zones were defined.
(2-thiocyanoethyl)-cinnamate (A) and a commercial product of Isothiazoline whose active ingredients are the mixture 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one and 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (B) were chosen for combination, and the diameters of inhibition zones and minimum inhibitory concentrations for the effectiveness of different combinations to nine fungi were determined to verify the feasibility of the two methods.
Results show that the values of SI calculated by MIC and the value of SI* calculated by diameters of inhibition zones are only slightly different, but they both show the same tendency in that, to most fungi and for most proportions, the values of SI and SI* are all less than 1.0. So, the different combinations of A and B show a synergistic effect or additive effect and the method of SI* is viable to evaluate their action. The relation between the value of SI* and the type of action is same as that of SI. Regarding the graphical method, the results for MIC show a dramatic synergistic effect that is different from that of SI method, and the results of evaluation of diameters of inhibition zones is similar to that of SI* method. So the graphical method expressed by the diameters of inhibition zones is also usable. As the determination of inhibition zones is a relative simple process, the two new methods are very convenient for evaluating synergistic combinations of leather fungicides.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Preparation off ungal spore suspensions - Preparation ofme dium containing fungal spores - Evaluation ofaction type by crossed filter paper strip - Mensuration ofdiam eter ofinhibit ion zone - Determination ofminim um inhibitory concentration (MIC)

Résistance à la flammeIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Four common film-forming materials, including polyurethane (PU), polyacrylate(PA), nitrocellulose lacquer (NC) and protein, were used to coat leather. The flammability of the leather was evaluated by the vertical flame test (ALCA Method E 50) and oxygen index (OI) test method (ASTM D 2863-77). The results indicate that all of the above film-forming materials can enhance the flame-resistance of the leather. According to the OI values of the finished leathers the performance of film-forming materials on leather can be ranked as : PU>Protein>PA>NC. The results of flammability tests show that pigmented finishes may improve the flame-resistance of the leather. The effect of different application levels of film-forming materials on the flammability was examined. The results indicate that the OI values decreased with the increasing levels of PA and PU, and the other values, i.e. afterglow, after-flame, char length and weight loss, etc. rose. The variance of PU was larger than for PA.
The afterglow and after-flame of the leather, finished with a 'Sofa Leather Finishing Formula' (Clariant Chemicals Ltd, China), were much higher than for the crust indicating that the flame-resistance of this finished leather is worse than the crust.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Preparation of finished leather samples - Sampling for oxygen index test and vertical flame test - Vertical flame test - Oxygen Index test
