The leather retanned by the amphiphilic polymeric syntan achieves an improvement of mechanical properties, as well as enhancement of thermal stability. The results of instrumental analysis also provide evidence to the applicability of the prepared copolymer as an efficient retanning agent for chrome-tanned leather.
• limiter le fluage ;
• limiter le taux de matières volatiles ;

Tannage Résumé : A collagen-based waterborne polyurethane retanning agent was prepared by prepolymerization, using isophorone diisocyanate polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMG, Mn-2000), 1, 4-butanediol (BDO), dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) and triethylamine (TEA), the collagen powder was added during the synthesis to modify the waterborne polyurethane. The collagen-based waterborne polyurethane was characterised via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-1R) and size analysis, the results showed that the collagen was grafted onto the main chain of polyurethane, the emulsion had a.uniform particle size distribution, the average particle size was 70nm. The prepared emulsion was used in retanning, the application result showed that the collagen-based waterborne polyurethane retanning agent had a good affect for leather filling, especially in the belly. The shrinkage temperature, tensile strength and tear resistance were all raised. The retannage can also help to overcome the question of pastel shades. Tannage Résumé : The recycling of leather solid waste has become a key issue aimed at realising the sustainable development of the leather industry. Recently, more and more attention has been paid on the recycling of limed fleshings. In this paper, a new recycling method for limed fleshings is reported. First, collagen protein hydrolysate (CH) was obtained by hydrolysing limed fleshings under alkaline conditions, and then the CHwas modified with cyanuric chloride (TCT) to obtain a high exhaustion chrome auxiliary (HECA). The coordination of HECA with chromium salts was investigated by ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrum. HECA was applied in the chrome tanning process as an additive. The chrome concentration in effluent, the shrinkage temperature and mechanical properties of the resultant wet-blue were determined. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to analyse the properties of the obtained leather. The results show that HECA could coordinate with chromium salts and significantly improved the absorption and fixation of chrome salt into leather. When the amount of chrome tanning agent was 5% and the amount of HECA was 3%, the uptake of chrome tanning agent could be increased to 92.42%, the shrinkage temperature (Ts) of wet-blue leather could reach 102.8°C, the relative increases being 27.26% and 7.3°C, respectively, compared with the conventional tanning process. The obtained wet-blue leather demonstrated uniform grain, good fullness and improved mechanical properties. This recycling method provides a valuable insight of developing high exhaustion chrome tanning aid from limed fleshings, and consequently increases the economic and environmental benefits in leather production. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : A multi-functional tanning agent has been synthesized by free radical co-polymerisation in water and the factors which affect the polymerisation are discussed. The conditions and properties of MTA used in leather tanning have been studied. The results show that MTA may be used in pretanning, retanning and filing. Thus the level of chrome tanning saltsused may be made more economic and thus pollution due to chrome may be reduced. Leathers produced using MTA appear to be ofhigh quality. The use of MTA does not affect the dyeing or fatliquoring of chromed leather.
