Tannage Résumé : In order to evaluate the reaction mechanism between Fe2+-gluconic acid compound and collagen, the combination tanning of type-I collagen with Fe2+-gluconic acid compound was studied by UV-Vis spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, circular dichroism, and differential scanning calorimetry. The molar ratio for the reaction between Fe2+ and gluconic acid was 1:3. The resulting increased thermal stability could be attributed to crosslinks formed between the compound and collagen. The tanning trials indicated favorable results. The shrinkage temperature observed was 96°C, with tensile strength of about 239 kg/cm, elongation at break of about 63% and tear strength of about 74 kg/cm. The leather tanned with the Fe2+-gluconic acid compound was lighter in color compared to the single ferrous sulfate (Fe(II)) tanning system, and had neither a darkening of color nor a reduction in strength properties. It was also clear that COD and TS loads were decreased by 26.5% and 29.8%, respectively compared to Fe(II) system, 7.3% and 26.1%, respectively, compared to BCS system. Studies show that the disadvantages connected with Fe(II) tanning system including loss of strength and darkening of color have been solved successfully. RetannageIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : The use of protein-based fillers in the retanning process can play a valuable part in the production of good quality leathers. This type of product is in wide use, but sometimes not applied in the right way. Accordingly, their full benefits are not always achieved or appreciated within the final leather.
Almost all the major chemicals used in the leather tanning processes carry charge so their use involves chemical reactions with collagen. In contrast, protein-based fillers have limited or absolutely no chemical reaction with the protein structure.
These products need using selectively, and not all types or leathers need Hers. For example, heavily vegetable re-tanned leathers, or thin leathers may not require this kind of product. However, where selective filling is needed it is easy to see the benefits that can be gained, and this applies to most leathers.Note de contenu : - Why use fillers as opposed to charged retanning agents ?

Titre : Fine structural features of dermatophilosis-infected bovine hides, and their implications in the quality of leather Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : G. N. Isitor, Auteur ; G. Gbolagunte, Auteur Année de publication : 1987 Article en page(s) : p. 351-359 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Samples of hides from several established cases of bovine dermatophilosis were processed for fine structural evaluation of associated pathologies, employing standard transmission electron microscopical analytical procedures. The hides of 2 of the cases were chrome-tanned into shoe upper leathers and physically examined for gross defects attribuable to the disease process. Classical changes observed within the infected hides were hyperkeratosis, edematous epidermal strata denoted by widening of intercellular spaces with loss of cellular contracts, total degeneration and necrosis of epidermal cells, detachment of basal epidermal cells from underlining basal laminae, breakages in contiuities of basal laminae, collagen fibrillar destruction with spatial disorientation in the grain, and dislodgement of collagen bundles by excessive cellular infiltrates within the corium. The most commonly associated pathogen - Dermatophilus congolensis was located within the keratinized epidermal layers, and appeared to have contributed immensely towards evoking the inflammatory reactions. Gross changes of leather from infected hides were manifested as blemishes in the form of pittings and wrinklings on the grain enamels. These changes were described to fine structural pathologies of the grain and corium which bodered on structural framework of collagen fibrils, fibers and bundles.
