Tannage Résumé : The aim of this work was to analyse physico-mechanical and physico-chemical properties of chrome leather, chrome-free and no-pickle chrome tanned leather. Leather was tested for tensile and tear strength. In addition, dome plasticity of grain, softness, absorption and permeability of water and water vapour were determined.
The properties of no-pickle leathers tanned with chrome and mineral-free tanned were found to exhibit no significant differences from those tanned using traditional methods, even showing a greater tensile strength. Softness was the sole parameter where a poorer performance was observed. it was preliminarily concluded, therefore, that introduction of more environment-friendly technologies requires a more thorough leather processing at the wet finishing stage in order to arrive at a desired leather quality comparable to that of the chrome tanned leather.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/15FTru7L4ltMe8pa0hf8UEEG3qHOsITuY/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=25104

Wet-white (tannage)Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Automotive upholstery leather can undergo extreme environmental that may cause premature ageing. Leather is strongly affected by three main environmental parameters : temperature relative humidity and UV radiation.
UV radiation causes colour change, fading, surface erosion, loss of gloss, etc. Increasing the levels of UV radiation represents a primary accelerating factor for leather ageing. Temperature produces thermal oxidation degradations, subsequent reaction rates and acceleration of other weathering reactions. Relative humidity acts as a chemical reagent in many hydrolytic weathering reactions and as a physical stressor of leather Additionally, when relative humidity is over 65 % leather is susceptible to mould attack.
The aim of this work is to compare the effect of the tropical environment exposure on both chrome-tanned and wet-white upholstery leather.Note de contenu : EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Methodology - Evaluation of sample

Wet-white (tannage)Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Public concerns about the quality of life of human beings as well as the quality of natural environments and ecosystems have led to the increasing importance of sustainability for governments and for all industries, including the leather industry. In this context, more "ecological" leather goods are being demanded. It should be noted that this concept is often used without a scientific study to support it.
This concept of sustainable or ecological product in the field of leather goods, are mainly associated with chrome-free tanneries (that is vegetable and wet-white), but this association should be backed up or dismissed by scientific evidence. A complete scientific study is required, which takes into account the different stages of leather production, including also the treatment of water and by-products, analyzing in a scientific and systematic way the environmental impact of each of these tanning processes.
This study focuses on the life cycle analysis of the three basic tanning processes: chrome, vegetable and wet-white leather production. It will focus on European manufacturing to have reliable data and reduce uncertainty.
In the tanning stage, the process with the greatest impact is the vegetable one, to highlight its high impact on global warming at 100 years (GWP100). This result is due to the energy necessary for the production of mimosa and quebracho in addition to the energy for the processing of the leather in the drums.
Wet white tanning with glutaraldehyde has lowest environmental results than vegetable tanning.
The chrome tanning process (wet blue) also stands out for its reduced environmental impact.
Subsequently, to have a global view of the entire production, the LCA of the post-tanning stages must be performed to evaluate the impact of each of the systems studied.Note de contenu : - Experimental - Scope and limits of the system

Tannage Résumé : Among the novel collagen crosslinkers currently being studied, polyepoxides (e.g. based on aliphatic polyol glycidyl ether), have shown certain potential in organic tannage applications. The work reported here is a comparison of the tanning abilities of some commercial epoxides with commonly used organic tanning agents, i.e. glutaraldehyde, oxazolidine and THPS. Studies have been based on the progress of tannage followed via crosslink density determination of treated gelatine (i.e. used as a collagen model). The investigation has also been concerned with comparing the physical, chemical, biological and morphological characters of the resultant leather.
The results show that the order of tanning ability to be: THPS > oxazolidine > glutaraldehyde >> epoxide. Epoxide, when used alone, is a fairly weak crosslinker of collagen and has to be used in relatively large quantities (an offer of 20% of skin weight). The epoxide has a slow reaction rate at room temperature and the resulting leather has lower hydrothermal stability (82°C) with a lower reacted amine content and tensile strength. However, this epoxide treated leather has high apparent density, moisture content and anti-trypsin degradation ability. The differences in tannage mechanisms for these reagents are discussed, in order to interpret the limitations of this type of epoxide.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Leather characterisation methods
