Titre : Regulation of animal feed ingredients by the food and drug administration Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Beverly. F. Corey, Auteur ; George Graber, Auteur Année de publication : 1989 Article en page(s) : p. 245-249 Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act prohibits interstate distribution in the United States of articles, including animal feeds and ingredients that are adulterated (e.g., unsafe) and misbranded. Under this statute a food additive means any substance whose intended use (direct or indirect) may result in its becoming a component or affecting the characteristics of food. A substance considered generally recognized as safe (GRAS) is not a food additive. A food additive is considered unsafe unless its safety has been demonstrated and a regulation published by the FDA. Hydrolysed leather meal (21 CFT 573.540) is regulated as a food additive for use in swine feed due primarily to its chromium content. Clearence of new ingredients is discussed. Note de contenu : - Generally recognized as safe (GRAS)
- An approved food additive
- Application for official AAFCO defenition as a feed ingredient

Drape is one such important property. In this study, drape coefficient and the number of nodes were measured for goat suede leathers from four different firms and compared with mechanical properties which influence garment construction, such as softness, flexural rigidity, initial tensile modulus, formability, weight and thickness. The mean drape coefficient ranges between 20.8 and 4.04 % and the number of nodes varies from 6 to 8 for the selected goad suede leathers from four different firms. Softness, flexural rigidity, formability, thickness and weight have been shown to influence the drape parameters such as drape coefficient and the number of nodes significantly. The results of this study can be used as a basic tool for leather selection to facilitate the design and construction of garments.
The emulsion polymerisation method and other chemical agents were maintained constant. Upper leathers were impregnated with these resins following a statistical design which included non-impregnated leathers as controls. Leather break and stiffness were assessed before and after the impregnating process. The elasticity modulus at 2% extension was measured for ail leathers and also in their respective grain and flesh layers after splitting. From the results obtained several concrete facts emerged. First, the leather break and stiffness increased in the following resins order: butyl acrylate < ethyl acrylate= methyl methacrylate < methyl acrylate. Relationships of the grain layer elasticity modulus to the flesh layer one for the impregnated leathers (Mi grain/Mi flesh) and for the control leathers (Mc grain/Mc flesh) were calculated. It was found that an increase in the difference between these two relationships correlated very well with the increase found in the leather break. On the other hand, when the leathers were impregnated with film forming polymers, their elasticity modulus increased proportionally to the polymer hardness increase. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This report describes the adaptation of an isometric tension technique for use with skin samples. The technique involved measures the decay of the force produced when a specimen is held at constant length above the shrinkage temperature, Ts. The decline in force reflects the breaking of the thermolabile cross-links found in immature skin collagen and can thus be used to monitor the maturation process of skins. In order to study the change trend of moisture permeability of natural leather and polyurethane-coated natural leather, this paper tested the moisture permeability of sheepskin and polyurethane-coated sheepskin under different time and temperature conditions. The results showed that the moisture permeability of sheepskin and PU-coated sheepskin increased with the increase of temperature. The moisture permeability of the two leather was: sheepskin>PU-coated sheepskin. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Experimental materials and instruments - Moisture permeability test
