FloculationIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Leather processing produces a large amount of wastewater with complex components. In particular, wastewater denitrification is a worldwide environmental problem. In this experiment, according to the characteristics of high concentration of suspended solid and heavy pollution load in leather wastewater, Bacillus cereus was used as the microbiota producing flocculant and its metabolites were collected as bioflocculant. Ampholytic starch was a novel selection for chemical modification, and the modified bioflocculant was used to treat leather wastewater. After determination, the removal rate of total nitrogen reached 100%, and the flocculation efficiency reached 98.17%. Exploring the flocculation mechanism of the modified bioflocculant for treating leather wastewater, shows that the modified bioflocculant and the pollutants in the wastewater were bonded by ionic bonds, and the particle size of supernatant in leather wastewater system gradually decreased from 2026nm to 147nm when the added modified bioflocculant charge was 0.08g, which indicated the existence of adsorption and bridging. In addition, the change of peak on the infrared spectrogram of the flocculation sediment indicated the chemical interaction of the functional groups such as -OH, -COOH in the flocculation process. When the pH of flocculation system rose from 4.0 to 8.0, the potential rose from -36mV to 1 mV, which proved that a strong charge neutralisation occurred. Through observing the appearance of particles in leather wastewater system, it was found that multi-network overlapping structure flocs were formed after the modified bioflocculant interacted with wastewater, and the flocs could capture the remaining pollutants in wastewater, which proved that sweep-floc coagulation occurred. The results showed that the modified bioflocculant combined with a variety of flocculation ways in the treatment of leather wastewater which enhanced the flocculation ability. This study clarified the flocculation mechanism of modified bioflocculant and further, provided a reference for the development of new more efficient bioflocculant which is environment friendly. SpectrophotométrieIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The on-line decolouring reverse reference flow injection analysis (r-FIA) was proposed to determine chromium(VI) extracted from dyed leather by phosphate buffer. A decolouring column and time switch controller was introduced in r-FIA. Under the optimal conditions, the linear range of this method was 2-50µg/l ; the detection limit was 0.94µg/l ; the relative standard deviation (n=11) for 20µg/l chromium(VI) was 0.88 %. Using a dyed leather sample, the corresponding linear range of this method was 0.5-12.5mg/kg. The method not only effectively removes the colour interference but also is also rapid, reliable, saves time and effort and is convenient. This method was suitable for automatic and continuous analysis with satisfactory result. The method represents 'green' analytical chemistry for Cr(VI) in dyed leather samples. PronaseIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The fluorescent dye derivatives fluorescein isothiocyanate (FI) and 5-dimethylamino-1-naphthalene sulfonyl chloride (DNS) have been covalently bound to collagen. Fluorescence from the FI conjugate is depolarized primarily hy rotation of the dye molecule about the covalent bond joining it to the protein. DNS on the other hand binds tightly to the helical regions of collagen and fluorescence from the DNS conjugate is depolarized hy rotatory diffusional motion in the nonhelical regions of the protein. Variation in pH between 3 and 10.5 has little effect on the degree of fluorescence polarization of the DNS conjugate, indicating that the degree of flexibility in the nonhelical regions remains unchanged in this pH range. Ca2+ ion induces local flexibility in the helical regions of collagen, and removal of the nonhelical regions by pronase treatment seems to render the helical regions more susceptible to perturbation by Ca2+ ions. ImperméabilisationIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : A novel fluorine-containing aqueous copolymer emulsion, which was used for waterproof leather fatliquoring, was prepared via free radical copolymerization from maleic anhydride and natural oil (rapeseed oil and fish oil) followed by an esterification reaction with dodecafluoro heptanol and octadecyl alcohol. The reaction was monitored on-line by FTIR analysis and the combining fastness [strength of the combination] between the fatliquoring agent and leather fibre was examined by extraction with dichloromethane and water. Simultaneously, the effects of the fluorine content on contact angle (water-surface of leather), dynamic waterproofness time and static water absorption ratio of leather were also investigated. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that most of the hydrophobic fluorine-containing groups were orientated onto the surface of the leather and formed a hydrophobic film layer, whilst the hydrophilic carboxyl groups were enveloped in the inner layer. The fact the combination fastness is greater for the fluorine-containing copolymer than for other types of fatliquoring agents, shows that the carboxyl groups in the inner layer have coordinated with chrome(III) in the form of chemical bonding rather than by physical absorption. Chrome tanned leather treated with this type of fluorine-containing copolymer fatliquoring agent shows good durable waterproofness. When the fluorine content in fatliquoring agent is varied from 0wt% to 5wt% (based on solid content), the contact angle increases from 125° to 155°, the static water absorption ratio of leather is less than 9wt% and the dynamic waterproofness time reaches 55 minutes. Mousse (chimie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : I have chosen the title "Novel type of finishing technology" as, although we had already started back in the 60s to apply foam finishes to leathers, contrary to today's methods, we then used to work with chemical foams. The making of foam at that time was a relatively simple procedure, as long as you were able to handle the necessary products and technologies. We added to the pigment-binder-mixture a so-called propellant, for example trichlorofluoroethane with a defined boiloing poit of 47.6°C and applied the mixture on normal spraying facilities. During the drying process gas escaped from the mixture, leaving a cell-like structure similar to a foam layer which could then be embossed.
The basic idea is still the same. Due to price pressure and the decreasing quality of available raw material, we apply with a single process an even foam layer. This method results in an upgrading due to the excellent covering powers of the foam which guarantees to cover all faults and defects in the raw material, like thorn scratches, fire-brands and insect bites. The foam method allows us to increase productivity considerably by keeping the sme equipment and manpower level. The embossing of the leathers is superior to any other conventional finish, as they do not harden and keep their soft and natural touch. The leathers, can be milled and at the same time gives very good fastness values. Last but not least, the leathers possess a very good water vapour permeability.
As you will remember, the use of these propellants, however, was limited in the first place and later on forbidden due to effects on the ozone layer and the continuous growth of the so-called ozone hole. These restrictions and environmental issues, inspired us to try to produce foam for leather finishes mechanically. In this connection we would also like to mention that Cliarant GmbH played a pioneer role in the sector of purely aqueous finishing systems.
