Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Strength is a very important property of leather and is known to depend on the arrangement of the collagen fibrils within the material. The addition of fatliquor (penetrating oils) is an essential part of the manufacture of leather and enhances the strength and feel of leather. However, the mechanism by which fatliquor leads to increased strength is not understood. Here we use synchrotron based small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) to monitor the collagen fibril rearrangement and internal strain of leather during tension. Differences in internal structural changes under strain with varying levels of fatliquor are investigated. It is found that when a strain of up to 40-70% was applied to leather, the orientation index (OI) of the collagen fibrils changed up to 21.8% and the d-spacing changed by up to 1.8% with no consistent differences at different levels of fatliquor. The extensibility of leather increases by 11.3% with as little as 2% fatliquor addition and the elastic modulus decreases with fatliquor addition but not in proportion to the amount of fatliquor. This change in extensibility is not reflected in differences in OI or d-spacing changes during strain. As reported previously, the fatliquor modifies the d-spacing of collagen. While fatliquor is traditionally considered to lubricate the fibers in leather, here the evidence suggests that this does not occur at the level of collagen fibrils. This provides an insight in the action of fatliquor in leather manufacture. Note de contenu : - Fatliquor addition

Titre : Fatliquoring agent for improving the properties of furniture and automotive leather Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Manfred Kaussen, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p. 16-22 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The manufacture of high quality furniture leather and of leather for the interior trim of automobiles is based on similar technology. That is why many factories which initially specialized in furniture leather have moved into the automotive segment and now either produce both types in parallel or have gone over to making nothing but automotive leather.
Despite this connection, furniture and automotive leather are very different from each other in terms of the requirements they are to meet, which are dictated by fashion and appearance in the one case, and by defined test results in the other. For this reason, it has so far been possible only in exceptional cases to produce both high-quality furniture leather and automative leather using one and the same fatliquoring agent.
Our objective was therefore to develop such a product. We saw confirmation in the fact that automative nowadays shows tendencies to more fashion leather, which call for a fatliquoring agent with a dual performance spectrum. The additional benefit or simpler logistics is incidental.
We shall go on to present our concept and the results obtained, while also highlighting areas which still present problems and where we are working on further improvements.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Wi4nPMKcPBvlA8dGzvZv1LKku-RExeQ7/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=4525

The modification interaction between pADM and E3 was investigated, and the various properties of the pADM after modification by E3 (E3-pADM) were further evaluated. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy indicated that E3 was successfully introduced into pADM. After the E3 treatment, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and FTIR analysis showed that the micro-structural integrity of pADM was still maintained and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) observation showed that the surface topography and pore structure were maintained. The differential scanning calorimetry measurement (DSC) demonstrated that the thermal stability was enhanced due to the improved structural stability after modification. Further, E3-pADMt was functionalized with hydrophobic properties compared with native pADM due to the silane side-chain. Enzymatic degradation study indicated that the resistance to enzymatic degradation of E3-pADM increased, which may benefit from hydrophobic chemical modification. In addition, the MTT assay and SEM observation illustrated that E3-pADM was favorable for the cellis adhesion, growth and proliferation. Taken as a whole, the results demonstrated that E3 could serve as a functional modifier for the chemical modification of pADM to improve the physicochemical and functional properties. Therefore, the prospect of E3 in the preparation of hydrophobic leather and acellular dermal matrix in future production and practice is brilliant. Kronick, Auteur ; Philip Thayer, Auteur Année de publication : 1989 Article en page(s) : p. 257-265 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The adhesions among the fibers od dried calfskin were examined by measuring the acoustical pulses emitted when the skin was stretched. The rate of emission of the pulses and their energies were determined. The frequency distributions of the pulse amplitudes comprised spectra that were similar in shape for skin that had been dried from acetone, petroleum ether, and petroleum ether containing fatliquor. The separate contributions from the ruptures of adhesions and of fibers to these spectra were analyzed and related to the lubrification of the fibers by fatliquor. The method promises to be helpful in elucidating and following changes in fiber adhesion in tanning, drying, impregnation, filling, and finishing, and might serve as the basis of a field test in leather drying.
