The structure of the latex film and the film was characterised by FTIR, XRD and UV. The effects of F9 and KH-792 on the properties of the film was investigated. The water contact angle and application properties of the coated leather were tested. FTIR and XRD showed that F9 and KH-792 were successfully introduced into the main chain of waterborne polyurethane. The particle size of the modified composite emulsion was 106nm; the UV transmittance of the composite emulsion was significantly reduced compared to pure aqueous polyurethane. The water contact angle of the leather finished with the composite emulsion was 111° Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Preparation of fluorosilicone waterborne polyurethane emulsion - Finishing technology of leather - Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) analysis - XRD analysis of emulsion - Particle size analysis of emulsion - UV analysis of emulsion - Contact angle of finished leather to water - Testing of the finished leather applied properties

Si(OCH2CH3)4 + 2 H2O → SiO2 + 4 CH3CH2OH.

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Despite its popularity in other industries, including textiles, for the preparation of inorganic and hybrid coatings, the use of sol-gel for leather finishing is a barely explored field. To exploit its unique and versatile chemistry, we have here evaluated the potential of sol-gel route for preparing protective coatings and achieve, at the same time, water- repellency on treated leather. To this aim, tetra-ethyl-ortho-silicate (TEOS) and functionalized Si-alkoxides, containing either alkyl or fluorinated groups were selected and compared.
The results of characterization indicate that, for the chosen formulations, alcohol-based sols were patently more effective than their water-based counterparts. Very high contact-angles were obtained for both alkyl- and fluorinated alkoxides, but, not surprisingly, fluorinated coatings provided a longer-lasting hydro-repellency. Sols well preserved leather grain, with no patent accumulation on pores or ridges, while only minor changes in color was observed in most formulations.
Overall, our results suggest that a careful optimization of sol-gel formulation can offer unexplored, versatile and very effective solutions in leather finishing.Note de contenu : - Synthesis and deposition of the sols

Tannage

Technique des plasmasIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : There are four states of matter : solid, liquid, gas and plasma. Many readers will be surprised to see plasma, as it is a recent addition to what is taught in schools. To get to liquid, melting a solid requires energy (normally heat). Likewise, the same is needed to go from liquid to gas and then to plasma.
Liquid to gas transitions is called vaporisation, and gas to plasma transitions are called ionisations. Staring into the flame of a campfire means you are looking at the state of matter called plasma — the colour depends on the heat, with a higher energy plasma being white and giving off all the frequencies of visible light.Note de contenu : - How does plasma work ?

PolyuréthanesIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : o overcome the leaching problem associated with low-molecular-weight antimicrobial agents, a water soluble antimicrobial polymer, poly(N-acryloyl ciprofloxacin-co-acrylic acid), was designed and synthesized via acryloylation of the secondary amine in 7-piperazinyl substituent of ciprofloxacin and subsequent copolymerization with acrylic acid. The structure of the copolymer was characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The copolymer was compatible with waterborne polyurethane for leather finishing, and remained antimicrobial even though the parent structure of ciprofloxacin molecule was altered. When incorporated into waterborne polyurethane leather coating as an antimicrobial agent, poly(N-acryloyl ciprofloxacin-co-acrylic acid) proved seldom leached out from the coating even after being rinsed for ten times. Based on these results, the water soluble antimicrobial copolymer designed in this study may prevent depletion of antimicrobial function of waterborne polyurethane leather coating, extending the lifetime of the leather products and enhancing their hygiene properties.
