Systèmes de refroidissementIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Plastic foams are important for resource conservation and material efficiency by reducing the part density. In order to produce a foam with a low density and a uniform bubble structure, the plastic melt, loaded with the blowing agent, must be cooled before entering the mold. Therefore, the IKT at the University of Stuttgart in Germany and Helix GmbH are developing a new, active cooling zone for foam extrusion in a joint research project.

PolystyrèneIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this study, an attempt has been made to synthesize polystyrene resin by utilizing waste Thermocol, which is further used as vvood coating. The optimum reaction conditions for polystyrene resin found to be at room temperature i.e. (25-40°C). Thermocol a basically polystyrene (CH(C,H))-CH)n by structure. Xylene is chemically a mixture of hydrocarbons. When Thermocol is added to xylene, xylene acts as a solvent and dissolves Thermocol. When xylene is saturated with Thermocol we get a coagulated mass which is the polystyrene resin. When we apply this polystyrene resin to a surface, molecules of the polystyrene resin get adsorbed on the surface. This is the resultant polystyrene resin.
Additives are substances compounded into a resin to enhance or improve Specific resin characteristics. Additives function by contributing to the quality, life and Usefulness of the resin. Their concentrations are typically less than a percent, but may range from 0.1 % upwards to 10%. The obtained polystyrene resin is subjected to different ratios of rosin on the basis of % Solids content of polystyrene resin and some additives for improving properties. The evaluated properties revealed that after treatment with rosin and additives formulated polystyrene resin showed quick drying, excellent hardness and good flexibility.
The results revealed that prepared polystyrene resin can used as a wood coating.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS : Thermocol - Xylène - Rosin - Dibutyl phthalate - Styrène monomer - TiO2 pigment

Transparence (optique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Heating time and temperature distribution of a semi-finished pre-product are key factors for a satisfying final shape in the thermoforming process. The heating is in most cases done by radiation, which is modelled in simulation by the law of Bouguer Beer Lambert. Two material parameters, the reflection of the surface and the optical penetration depth are needed for the application of this law. One prerequisite for this is that the optical penetration depth is independent of the material thickness. In literature it is very often common to trust on that assumption and to determine it via single measurement of a film or plate with one thickness. The validity of this presumption is investigated for two different polystyrene compounds as part of this work. This assumption was fulfilled for a clear unfilled polystyrene (PS) in a wide range of wavelengths. In contradiction to this, the optical penetration depth of the white filled PS compound is dependent on film thickness. Moreover it increases slightly with film thickness. This deviation is correlated to the strong scattering effect of titanium dioxide contained in this compound. Thermoplastiques -- Moulage par injectionIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Injection molding with expandable thermoplastic microspheres (ETM) containing blowing chemicals is capable of fabricating lightweight, dimensionally stable plastic parts while using less material. This paper presents the study of microcellular injection molding of low density polyethylene (LDPE), polypropylene (PP), and polystyrene (PS) parts with various ETM contents. It was found that the molded parts exhibit relatively better surface quality than conventional foamed parts. The microcellular morphology and cell density of the fractured crosssectional surfaces were characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). As reflected by the testing results, the cell microstructure – such as cell size, cell density, and a layered structure with a foamed core sandwiched by skin layers – play an important role in the weight reduction, surface quality, and mechanical properties. A smaller cell diameter and a thicker skin layer help to improve the surface quality and tensile properties of the injection molded parts with ETM. Finally, an appropriate ETM content has a positive effect on cell microstructure and weight reduction, whereas too high a concentration of microspheres adversely affects the tensile properties and surface quality.
