Tannage Résumé : In this study, collagen peptide products (SFC) were prepared using solid-state fermentation of chrome tanned leather shavings (CTLS) by Serratia marcescens G and compared with alkali extracted collagen peptide products (AEC) and acid extracted collagen peptide products (ADC). SDS-PAGE electrophoresis revealed a wide relative molecular weight distribution for SFC and ADC, while AEC exhibited a concentration around 200 and 160 kDa. Scanning electron microscopy depicted a multi-layer sheet-like structure for SFC and ADC, contrasting with the dense block-like structure of AEC.
X-ray diffraction indicated the formation of amorphous structures in products produced through acid or solid-state fermentation. Chromium content analysis through ICP experiments revealed levels in the order ADC > SFC > AEC. Thermal stability assessment using a rotational viscometer ranked the products as AEC > SFC > ADC. Measurement of pH effects on solubility determined the isoelectric points of SFC and AEC as pH = 6, while those of ADC were pH = 4. Experimental results on oil absorption, water absorption, water holding capacity, and emulsifying capacity showed that SFC exhibited the highest oil absorption capacity, ADC had the highest water absorption capacity, SFC and AEC demonstrated better water holding capacity, and SFC and ADC exhibited superior emulsifying capacity.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Materials - Solid-state fermentation of CTLS for the preparation of collagen peptides - Preparation of collagen peptides from CTLS by alkaline hydrolysis - Preparation of collagen peptides from CTLS by acid hydrolysis - Characterization of collagen peptides

Vêtements traditionnels -- EthiopieIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This study explores the traditional Ethiopian leather garments, Debelo (hair-on leather clothing) and Lemed (hairless leather clothing), delving into their cultural significance and examining contemporary challenges that diminish their usage. Through a thorough analysis of traditional manufacturing processes and a comparison of physical properties of leathers processed by traditional and modern tanning techniques, we shed light on the practical limitations of these garments, including heaviness, strong odours, colour fading, and a lack of modern design elements. By employing a mixed-methods approach of interviews, questionnaires, and physical property testing, we trace the declining trend in the use of Debelo and Lemed. We propose innovative solutions that integrate modern tanned leathers with traditional craftsmanship, aiming to enhance the sustainability, aesthetic appeal, and physical quality of these garments. This approach seeks not only to overcome the practical limitations but also to rejuvenate these vital components of Ethiopian cultural heritage, ensuring their continued relevance in the global fashion industry. The research highlights the importance of preserving traditional crafts by adapting them to contemporary needs, thus contributing significantly to the field of cultural artifact conservation and sustainable fashion. Tannage Résumé : In recent years, there has been a growing focus on amphoteric retanning materials due to their crucial role in enhancing the electropositivity of retanned leather and improving the absorption of anionic dyes and fatliquors. This paper introduces a novel design and successful preparation of amphoteric retanning agents. Initially, a series of poly(N-vinylformamide-co-acrylic acid) copolymers were synthesized through a free radical copolymerization reaction initiated by azodiisobutyamidine hydrochloride. Subsequently, these polymers were hydrolyzed to produce an amphoteric retanning agent (A-PVAm) with a solid content of 15 %(Wt). Their structures were characterized using FT-IR, and their isoelectric points were determined through a zeta potential analyzer. Following this, a fluorescent tracer (FA-PVAm) was synthesized by reacting fluorescein 5-isothiocyanate with A-PVAm. This tracer was utilized to monitor the real-time penetration and mass transfer of A-PVAm during the retanning process as a signaling agent. The mass transfer of A-PVAm was observed concerning dosage and running time. It was observed that within 60 minutes, A-PVAm could evenly distribute throughout the leather. In instances where the retanning agent dosage was inadequate, the inner part of the crust showed minimal presence of the retanning agent. However, at dosages exceeding 20 %, the retanning agent exhibited uniform distribution within the leather. The utilization of the fluorescent tracing technique proved effective in creating a tracer to monitor the penetration of the amphoteric acrylic resin retanning agent in leather. This approach can assist in optimizing the molecule structure of the polyacrylate retanning agent and analyzing its mechanism of action. kénaf et constituantsLe Kenaf (Hibiscus Cannabinus L. et Hibiscus Sabdarifa L.), aussi appelé chanvre de Deccan, est une plante annuelle de la famille des Malvaceae.

Research has been actively conducted on the use of leather processing wastes for architectural interior materials, flooring materials, and regenerated leather. In the case of regenerated leather, it is attracting attention because its properties are different from those of natural leather and synthetic leather. Conversely, recycling research using waste mushroom media is still in the basic stage and remains at the level of simple recycling. In this study, we prepared regenerated leather samples using the following four raw materials in different mixing ratios and analyzed their properties : collagen fibre recovered from shaving scraps, kenaf fibre, rice straw fibre, and waste mushroom medium. The results of the physical property analysis show that the regenerated leather samples prepared with collagen fibre tend to have better tensile and tear strengths than those prepared with kenaf or rice straw fibre. Regarding the specific gravity of the material, the samples prepared with kenaf and rice straw fibres, which have porous structures, yielded poor results compared with the sample prepared with collagen fibre. In terms of softness, the sample prepared with animal-derived collagen fibre is superior compared with the samples prepared with plant-based kenaf and rice straw fibres. In conclusion, the regenerated leather samples prepared by mixing waste mushroom medium with collagen fibre exhibit superior properties compared with those of the samples prepared with kenaf or rice straw fibre. Cuirs et peaux -- ConservationIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Salted animal skins and preservation salt may contain various microorganisms in the leather industry. Microbial activities on the raw and preserved hides and skins may cause adverse effects during salting process, storage period, and soaking process on leather. Antimicrobial applications have a critical importance to prevent damage of microorganisms during these applications. Hence, the aim of the present study was to inactivate moderately halophilic isolates by 2A direct electric current treatment which cause skin degradation. Each moderately halophilic bacterial species (Terribacillus halophilus SLMHB10, Vibrio alginolyticus SLMHB12, Vibrio parahaemolyticus SLMHB13), which were previously isolated from soak liquor samples, and their mixed culture were separately treated with 2A DC in test media containing 25% NaCl solution, 10% NaCl solution, both 4% NaCl and organic substance. Although Terribacillus halophilus SLMHB10, Vibrio alginolyticus SLMHB12, and the mixed culture of three species were completely killed in 18 min, Vibrio parahaemolyticus SLMHB13 were completely killed in 12 min. As a conclusion, 2A direct electric current application were found fairly effective to kill moderately halophilic isolates recovered from soaking liquors in the leather industry.
