However, it is heavier than materials such as various fibres and synthetic leather, which makes it unsuitable for modern applications that prioritise lightness, portability and fuel efficiency. In addition, animal skins used as raw materials are structured with collagen protein, which limits the ability to ability to reduce the weight by altering the thickness and chemicals used in its preparation. In this study, we investigated the penetration, fixation, and foaming methods of thermally expandable microcapsules (TEM) in leather manufacturing procedures to reduce the weight of natural leather. Dyeing and fatliquoring were suitable processes for applying TEM to leather, and the combined use of acryl polymers enabled TEM to attach efficiently to the leather tissue. The manufacture of foamed leather under conditions of 20% TEM and 3% fixing agent resulted in an increase in the thickness by >20% and enabled the production of foamed leather with excellent physical properties. Moussage (chimie)Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Shaving scrap is collagen fibre, that is the leather waste occurring during thickness adjustment during the natural leather manufacturing process, and may cause problems such as environmental contamination because of the chromium (Cr) contained when it comes to reclaiming processes. Various studies applying to shaving scrap are currently being conducted in many countries across the world with an initiative by the EU. Amongst those applications, the regenerated leather is being highlighted as a substitute for natural leather. However, since the regenerated leather uses latex as a binder, it accordingly entails a high weight, which is deemed as a disadvantage due to its dense internal tissues compared to other synthetic leathers. To address such disadvantages, this study employed the thermally expandable microspheres (TEMs) to improve its density and light weight by alleviating the internal structure. This is a study on the manufacturing of foamed regenerated leather using shaving scraps. In the study, the shaving scraps were forced to foam at under 100~120°C with consideration for the heat resistance of collagen fibre after applying the thermally expandable microsphere, and then the effect was analysed. In the analysis results, the most effective foaming rate was exhibited when the shaving scraps were treated at under 110°C for 8 minutes using TEMs T110. Produits de nourriture du cuirIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : 12-hydroxystearate diethanolamine, an intermediate for a leather fatliquoring agent, was prepared by two-step synthesis of amidation reaction and ammonolysis reaction through vacuum distillation dehydration, using 12-hydroxystearic acid and diethanolamine as raw materials. Through single factor experiments, the optimised synthesis conditions were determined as follows: the molar ratio of 12-hydroxystearic acid to diethanolamine was 1:1.03, and the temperature of the first amidation reaction was 135°C and the reaction time was 4 hours. In the second step of ammonolysis reaction, the reaction temperature was 70°C, the amount of sodium ethylate (sodium ethoxide) used as catalyst was 1.5% of the mass of 12-hydroxystearic acid, and the reaction time was 2 hours. Under the optimised conditions, the yield of the product could reach 90.9%. The structures of 12-hydroxystearate diethanolamide were characterised by FTIR spectrum. Wet-white (tannage)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In view of the environmental pollution caused by chrome tanning in current tanning processes, the development of chrome-free ecological leather manufacturing technology is an important direction for the development of the leather industry. However, the strong negative charge of chrome-free tanned leather leads to the reduction of binding sites of most anionic dyeing and finishing materials, resulting in colour fading and poor handle of the finished leather. Therefore, this paper mainly uses Nvinylimidazole, bromodecan and dimethylaminoethyl acrylate as raw materials to synthesise a ionic liquid-based amphiphilic polymer surfactant through free radical polymerisation and quaternisation and then, uses it in the fatliquoring process of a chrome-free non-metallic tanned green leather. The structure and morphology of the fatliquored wet-white leather were studied by SEM and the ultra depth of a field microscope, and the softness and physical and mechanical properties of the fatliquored leather were tested. The results showed that the collagen fibres were loosely distributed and the gap between the collagen fibres was larger after fatliquoring, and the softness and physical and mechanical properties of the fatliquored leather were improved.
