Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : When it comes to corrosion protection coatings, sol-gel based formulations have many advantages over conventional organic paints. However, to get the best performance from such formulations they must be cured at high temperatures (around 150 °C), which means
that the process is energy-consuming and has a high environmental impact. However, lower curing temperatures, especially at room temperature, normally yield very porous non-protective coatings. Moreover, some large parts cannot be placed in an oven (e. g. a ship’s hull) and others are heat-sensitive substrates (polymers) that deteriorate when heated.Note de contenu : - Sol-gels

SilanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Silane/TiO2 hybrid coatings were prepared on 304 stainless steel (304 SS) by a simple dipping method, where the silane is d-γ-methylacryloxy propyl trimethoxyl silane (CH2=C(CH3)COO(CH2)3Si(OCH3)3, MPMS). The photogenerated cathodic protection and invalidation of the hybrid coatings were evaluated by microstructure and electrochemical characterization. The coupling agent MPMS reduced the agglomeration of the nanosized TiO2 powders and promoted the adhesion of the coatings. Barrier protection of the coupled metal was promoted for the hybrid coatings in a short corrosion time. However, MPMS decreased the carrier concentration of the TiO2 electrode due to the large interface resistance. As a result, the corrosion potential shifted positively and the photogenerated cathodic protection decreased. In long-time corrosion, the hybrid coatings became invalid because of the accumulation of electropositive holes that may weaken the Ti–O bond and destroy the barrier effect. SilanesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Carbon black (CB)-filled rubber composites are widely used for tire tread and other rubber products due to their good abrasion resistance and reinforcement. Numerous studies have been focused on the filler-rubber interaction with the aim of obtaining optimum performances. In order to investigate the effect of modification on properties of diene rubber composites, a modified CB-filled isoprene rubber (IR) composite was prepared with a multi-functional silane coupling agent, 2-aminoethyl-2-(3-triethoxysilylpropyl)aminoethyl disulfide (ATD). This modification significantly enhanced the CB-IR interaction and improved CB dispersion. For the modified CB/IR vulcanizates, the tensile strength, stress at 300% elongation, temperature rise, and dynamic loss coefficient were significantly improved at low ATD dosage (1.5 phr). Such modification provides an effective route to prepare CB-reinforced diene rubber composites with low hysteresis and improved mechanical properties.

SilanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Phosphate has been used as a coating agent in various fields, such as electrical steel (ES), because of its excellent electrical insulation and corrosion resistance. Although the insulating properties of a phosphate coating can significantly improve the iron loss of the ES sheet, a new coating material to enhance the performance of the ES sheet further should be developed. In this study, we synthesized organic–inorganic hybrid coating agents with superior insulation compared to that of the conventional phosphate coating agent. Inorganic particles with excellent insulating properties (SiO2, TiO2, and Cr2O3) and silane coupling agents were used as starting materials. The good surface modification of inorganic particles by silane coupling agents with appropriate solvent content in the coating agent led to good dispersion stability of the coating agent. Homogeneous dispersion of the coating agent was attributed to the good surface roughness of the hybrid materials coated on the ES. Finally, when the hybrid coating agent with optimized composition was applied to the ES, the insulation property of the hybrid coating (< 100 mA) was superior compared to that of the conventional phosphate coating (~ 200 mA), and corrosion resistance was also excellent.
