Placement automatisé de fibresIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Recently, the composite industry has been focusing on increasing the efficiency of processes. The large panel of automated processes highlights the importance of optimising process quality and time. However, there was no automated quality inspection system available, keeping this key step time-consuming and prone to potential human error. In this context, InFactory Solutions developed new solutions for automated fibre placement (AFP) monitoring. Note de contenu : - AFP sensor

Recyclage (déchets, etc.)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Automated Fibre Placement (AFP) processes produce more of uncured-prepreg-tape material scrap than is generally imagined. Due to reasons of machine set-up time, all the reels of tape in an AFP machine are usually changed simultaneously as soon as the tape left on one reel is not sufficient to build the next component. Some reels have up to 200 metres of material left when they are exchanged. With large AFP systems processing up to 32 reels in parallel, manufacturers consequently suffer from high scrap rates, up to 10% for larger parts. In addition, the uncured prepreg material must be disposed of at high cost. All this significantly drives up the cost of otherwise efficient AFP processes. Satellites artificielsIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Small satellites provide a responsive alternative to larger, more expensive satellites. As the demand grows, engineers must adapt these "nanosatellites", or CubeSats, to accomplish new achivements and goals. One of these achievements is to deploy TubeSats, a new type of cylindrically-shapped nanosatellites not much bigger than an ordinary beverage can, from the International Space Station (ISS). Due to their cylindrical shape, TubeSats are not compatible with the normal CubeSats deployer platform (P-POD) on the ISS. An innovative nano-satellite, TuPOD (TubeSat-POD), was developed to address the challenge. Note de contenu : - Development and launch of a CubeSat/deployer

NanotubesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are one of the most innovative materials. Even an ultra-low dosage of nanotubes in resin can impart permament and uniform conductivity to glass fibre and substantially improve its rheological and mechanical properties. The advent of technology for mass nanotube production, the drop in nanotube prices and the development of concentrates that make it much easier to work with nanotubes have contributed to the marked growth in the applications of this unique material in composites. With single-wall nanotubes, manufacturers have already managed to develop a new generation of reinforced and electrically-conductive glass fibre products, including pipes, tanks, protective housings, and reinforcements.
