Mucus
Index. décimale : 677.3 Fibres animales Résumé : Hagfish slime consists of mucins and protein threads that are released from slime glands and mix with seawater to produce an ephemeral material with intriguing physical properties. The hagfishes can produce remarkable quantities of the slime because it is almost 3 orders of magnitude more dilute than typical mucus secretions. Mucins impart viscosity at the strain rates tested and are important for rapid deployment of the slime. The slime threads are tapered at both ends, which suggested to us that hagfish slime might best be modeled as a discontinuous fiber-reinforced composite. The hagfish slime consists mainly of bulk seawater entrained between mucin-coated threads, and in this way functions more like a fine sieve than coherent mucus. This article includes the history of hagfish slime and overview of hagfish slime threads. Note de contenu : - History of hagfish slime

Technique des plasmas
Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 677 Textiles Résumé : Plasma treatment is a dry processing technique. As a result, the textile industry has become more interested in plasma applications as a novel finishing technology that significantly reduces toxic-chemical pollution. Plasma technology is suitable to modify the chemical structure as well as the to¬pography of the surface of the material. Law pressure plasma is extensively used for the surface modification of textiles. The importance of the application of plasma surface modifications on the cotton fabric is to improve the performance functionality of the surface. This paper reviews the effect of plasma treatment on surface modification of bast fibers and their properties. Note de contenu : - What are plasmas ?

Sustainability is a deciding factor in ensuring the survivability of the industries economically. The apparel industry is an ever-grovving industry in the world with a rise in per capita consumption of textile products that is ever increasing. As the population growth increases, further increases the consumption of clothing is one of the basic needs for society. Note de contenu : - Need for sustainability

The influences of irradiation dose on the properties of treated UHMWPE fibers were measured. The results show that as the irradiation dose increased, the gel content first rose and then declined; the breaking strength decreased continuously ; the elongation at break increased at first and then decreased ; and the creep rate originally fell and then rose, finally declining stowly. The melting point and crystallinity decreased slightly. Note de contenu : - Materials and chemicals

Despite its undeniable advantages in production speed or related to special product properties (touch, softness, etc.), there is one significant downside : its huge energy consumption. In total, the energy consumption for hydroentangled nonwovens is typically in the range of 1.2-2.5 kWh/kg only for the entanglement part of the production line. While liber costs still dominate the total costs of the product, the energy costs of hydroentanglement cause 40-50% of all other costs of such a production line (energy, depreciation, loan costs, maintenance etc.) and add up to, depending on product € 1.5-2.5 million/year for a nonwovens line with a 2,000 kg/h production. Thus a reduction of these energy costs leads to a significant reduction of the production costs of hydroentangled nonwovens. Note de contenu : - Entangling
