The surface needs to be prepared sa as to remove contaminants that would detract the adhesion of the coating. However, there are one type of surface coating system that is used in quite opposite manner. These coatings are called gelcoats. They are used in such a way that substrate is built up onto the coating se that the gelcoat becomes an integral part of the article to be produced. The optimal dispersion of the nanofillers in the resin is a key factor for achieving the aforementioned properties. Note de contenu : - GELCOAT

Epoxy networks are amongst the most popular thermosetting polymers which are used in various applications, such as coatings, adhesives, insulation, castings, electrical, composites etc. The present review focuses on the recent developments in synthesis of partially or fully bio-based epoxy resins. In the recent literature there are many papers and reviews on the use of biomaterials for synthesis of epoxy resin, such as modified vegetable oils, carbohydrate based precursors, polyphenols, terpenes, rosin, natural rubber, lignin, isosorbide, furan, etc. Note de contenu : - Bio-based backbones for epoxy resins

These pigments display a wide range of properties such as colour-travel, reflect or refract light, act as a mirror (metal flakes) and multiple colour effect called iridescence. Iridescence is an optical phenomenon of surfaces in which the hue changes with the angle of observation and the angle of illumination. It is often caused by multiple reflections from two or more semi-transparent surfaces in which the phase shift and interference of the reflections modulates the incidental light (by amplifying or attenuating some frequencies more than others). The term luster pigment is also often applied to these effect pigments because all effect pigments provide lustrous effect in practical applications. Revêtement en phase solvant:Peinture en phase solvant
Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Paints and coatings are not useful products by themselves, but they make other products look better, more durable, more attractive, safer, and more saleable. Paints and coatings are therefore considered enabling materials that add value to manufactured products. Think of a car without paint on it, or your nice teak wood furniture without a finish. Thin coats of paint, coating, or varnish bring life to these products and make them acceptable and durable.
Mineral particles are used as fillers in a range of applications, including paper, decorative and functional coatings, plastics and ceramics. To a mineralogist, minerals are defined primarily by their chemical composition. For the producer and end user, the physical properties of these industrial mineral products such as size and shape distribution, refractive index, density, hardness, and color are of primary importance, since it is the combination of these, together with its crystal structure and surface chemistry, which gives the mineral its functionality. The morphology of the particles constituting the mineral within a desired particle size distribution can be a key factor in determining the functionality of the end use.
There are many applications where the barrier properties of paints and coatings are key factors determining performance: For example, in protection against sunlight, air, moisture, dirt and corrosion of metals/substrate. The paint technologist therefore needs an understanding of the important parameters control ling permeability in order to design an appropriate product.
Minerals with a high aspect ratio, when aligned in a coating structure, create a tortuous path that can reduce the penetration rate of a permeating material. At a constant coat weight, there are more thin plate stacks compared to a blocky mineral system. This creates a more tortuous path for liquid and vapour penetration. So, it is clear that higher aspect ratio materials give reduction in permeability, compared to more blocky system.
In general, platy particles overlap in a film and prevent water, oxygen or other chemicals to reach the substrate basis directly, meaning the time for corrosion stimulators to start their work is increased. The addition of such platy additives in rust prevention, anti-corrosive and concrete coati ngs ensure optimal performances for surface protection.
There are many ways to define sustainability, but when most people here the word "sustainable," they immediately think "green". Often the most important, long term sustainability goal for businesses is having environmentally responsible products and practices — those that lessen or eliminate negative impacts on the environment. Environmentally sustainable practices can have long-lasting effects.
Most barrier solutions available on the market are based on polyethylene, or additives containing harmful halogens. Though these components give excellent results as a barrier but have a very harmful impact on health and environment. Therefore, ail our barrier coating is mineral based solutions having no negative impact on health and environment. They provide a prise-competitive and environmental friendly alternative.
High aspect ratio wet ground Mica provides barrier formation for anti-corrosion coatings impeding the transport of aggressive species into any metal surface.
Surface modified platy minerals for green corrosion protection coatings can be used to formulate eco-friendly corrosion protection coatings which no longer require special labelling, giving them a genuine market advantage. Even without the addition of corrosion protection pigments, these formulations provide outstanding protection.
Lamellar high aspect ratio talc increase barrier effect of the paint film by increasing hiding power, mud crack and weather resistance. Lamellar talc grades is white and produced with special grinding technique not to destroy natural lamellarity. It can be micronized without distorting it's structure due to advanced technology.
Platy iron oxide provides tough barrier surface and excellent UV absorption layer. They are excellent weather resistant and anti-rust. They are also used in zinc-rich primers.
In this study, different functional play minerals were evaluated in relation to their corrosion protection, based on barrier behavior. The following platy minerals were used for study : surface modified kaolin, lamellar high aspect ratio talc, wet groung mica and platy iron oxide.Note de contenu : - Platy minerals provide following properties in paints & coatings

Revêtement émail:Peinture-émailIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Since even supposedly non-oxidizing materials such as coconut-oil alkyds exhibit oxidation products over long term exposure, and since antioxidants now on the market have been proved to inhibit ultraviolet degradation, it bas been theorized that the conversion of ultraviolet energy causes the formation of ozone, and that is the source of oxidation deterioration. It is, therefore, probable that materials such as zinc oxide or the ultraviolet-absorbing benzophenone compounds function as inhibitors of the formation of destructive ozone.

Métaux -- Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Corrosion in petroleum industry causes a loss of billions of dollars every year. Many cases of extensive corrosion have occurred in production tubing, valves, and in flow lines from the wellhead to the processing equipment. The reason for this is that ail and gas from the well contain varying amounts of water, which can be precipitated as a separate phase in contact with the material surface, and that th is water contains gases such as CO2 and possibly H2S, as well as salts. In most cases of severe corrosion, CO2 plays a major role. Uniform corrosion taking place causes 30% failures and other 70% is caused by Iocalized corrosion. Various methods of controlling corrosion are discussed here. Note de contenu : - Petroleum industry
