Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Segmented polyurethane ureas were prepared with varying polyether diols, diisocyanates and chain extenders. The viscoelastic properties of these films were evaluated through dynamic mechanical and thermal analyzer (OMTA).The mechanical film properties such as tensile strength, adhesion strength and hardness were measured and related to chemical composition and cohesion of the hard segment. The degree of phase mixing was found to be dependent on the synthetic ingredient structure. Water vapor transmission measurements were carried out to find out and correlate permeability with structures. The results indicate that the combined analysis of the hard segment cohesion helps in correlating the structure to property relationship. Note de contenu : - Dynamic mechanical and tensile properties

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Acrylic polyols with different hydroxyl value were synthesized by solution and suspension polymerization techniques by using butyl acrylate (BA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), styrene and hydroxy ethyl methacrylate (HEMA). These polyols were crosslinked with butoxy methyl-melamine in presence of acid catalyst.
The practical performance properties of crosslinked acrylic melamine coatings were evaluated. The mechanical properties, tensile properties, water vapor permeability, corrosion and chemical resistance properties have been studied. The results indicated increased crosslinking and glass transition temperature (Tg) with the increase of hydroxyl number in the polyols. Coatings based on polyols synthesized by suspension polymerization technique showed more flexible nature with higher gloss as compared to polyols synthesized by solution polymerization method.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Synthesis of acrylic polyols - Characterization - Melamine resin - Formulation of acrylic-melamine clear and pigmented coatings - Tensile properties - Water Vapor Permeability (WVP) - Dynamic mechanical properties - Surface preparation and paint application - Mechanical properties - Corrosion resistance properties - Chemical resistance properties

Kalyan Chakravarti, Auteur ; Ramanuj Narayan, Auteur ; K. V. S. N. Raju, Auteur Année de publication : 2003 Article en page(s) : p. 45-56 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Acrylic copolymers with different amounts of hydroxyl groups were prepared byfree-radical solution and suspension polymerisation techniques in presence of benzoyl peroxide (BPO) initiators. Monomers used were hydroxy ethyl methacrylate (HEMA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate (BA) and styrene. The polymers synthesized were characterized by get permeation chromatoyaphy, IR and 1H-NMR. The polyols were crosslinked with butoxy methyl melamine in the ratio 85:15 in presence of p-TSA. The practical performance of melamine-cured acrylic coatings was investigated. The free clear coatings were used for dynamic mechanical, thermal, tensile and water vapor permeability study. Supportedcoatings were used for mechanical property evaluation. The results indicated increased crosslink density and glass transition temperature with the increase of hydroxyl number in the acrylic copolymer. The lower glass transition temperatures of the coatings formulated from polyols synthesized by suspension polymerization method than the coatings formulated from polyols synthesized by solution polymerization method. Coatings formulated from polyols synthesized by suspension polymerization showed more flexible nature as compared to polyols synthesized by solution polymerization method. The thermal stability of the polyols was less than the corresponding crosslinked coatings. The water vapor permeability data showed the anomalous behavior. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A brief overview of roof cooling materials has been described in this paper. The problem associated with urban heat island on the hot summer days creates an uncomfortable atmosphere to the persons staying inside a room. Additionally, the energy needs for air-conditioning results in air pollution. We have tried to show in this paper, how cool roofing materials works, their use benefits urban people and the condition on which these materials can be applied on a roof. The situation represents a challenge to coating science, as the need arose to lower the solvent content and some major development has taken place in the last few years. In the present paper, control of VOC content using different methods for acrylic coatings crosslinked with MF and isocyanate resin has been discussed. Control of binder viscosity and molecular weight for high solid thermoset acrylic coatings by adopting different methods has also been discussed.
