PigmentsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Pigments are inherent to paint formulations. They provide color strength, gloss and color intensity to the paint. To use powder pigments, formulators need to grind the pigments first. The particle size distribution of the mill base influences a lot the quality and more specifically the color strength of die final paint. Complete dispersion of pigment and extender in the liquid medium is essential for optimization properties such as process ability, shelf-life stability, color development, opacity and gloss. Moreover, the quality of the dry paint film is very much related to the uniformity of the distribution of the pigment. Separation and settling, inferior mechanical film properties and low film transparency are often related to insufficient pigment dispersion. In order to optimize the stage of dispersion, well controlled conditions for the dispersion process and dispersion stabilization need to be maintained. Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Coatings are nothing but a stable dispersion of various raw materials in a continuous phase which are applied onto the substrates to accomplish both decorative and protective functions. Choice of the functional raw materials plays a key rote in this process. As the coating technology strives to design "Intelligent & Smart" coatings which sense and responds to the changing service dynamics with the aim of enhancing the service life of coatings to Amazonian proportions, it becomes imperative that the raw materials are to be incorporated in such a manner that they remain unaffected for long both in-can and after application, be readily available as and when required to achieve specific tasks, at specific locations. Microcapsules are made by encapsulating the functional materials within an appropriate shell and incorporating them within the paint helps to achieve ail of this and more. Microcapsules helps to preserve the functional materials for as long as they are required, deliver them as and when required and at appropriate locations within the coating matrix — something similar to that of precision guided munitions. This review article guides the reader through the process of micro encapsulation, preparation of micro capsules with elaboration on specific techniques, release mechanisms & profiles and some of the performance attributes they can impart to the coatings and in the conclusive part of this article some of the key challenges that are yet to be overcome are also discussed. Titre : Dispersing without grinding media Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Sven Hoffmann, Auteur ; Michael Schmidt, Auteur Année de publication : 2015 Article en page(s) : p. 72-74 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Dispersions et suspensions -- Appareils et matériels Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The Business Unit Grinding & Dispersing, one of three business units of the global NETZSCH Group, offers a comprehensive program for the many challenges in mechanical process engineering. Here the Business Unit is primarily involved in the areas of wet and dry grinding, mixing, dispersing, deaeration and classifying. The laboratory- and production-scale machines, as well as complete production lines, are used in almost ail areas of industry, such as the future-oriented nanotechnology sector, the production of ink, minerals or foods. The bundling of processing know-how, our extensive machine program, solutions for customer-specific problems and our global presence are unique and hence the strength of the business unit.
A crushing or dispersing process is required in the manufacture of many different products. For some applications with the goal of achieving deagglomeration, disaggregation or delamination, manufacturing technologies are often applied for which optimization is both desired and necessary. With the new OMEGA technology from NETZSCH-Feinmahltechnik GmbH, optimization is often possible for such applications in terms of power requirements, output and service Iife of the machine as well as ease of cleaning and operation.
The function of this machine is similar to that of a high-pressure homogenizer. Due to the unique modular construction of the dispersing unit, the essential difference is that the OMEGA operates with a maximum pressure of only 700 bar. Thus, compared to agitator bead mills or high-pressure homogenizers, a savings in specific energy of more than 50% can be achieved for some applications.Note de contenu : - Comminution processes : true comminution and dispersing

In many cases, regulation constraints have led to reconsider bath technologies and products but certainly not performances.
Coatings particularly is one field in which high performance is required since the function of a coating, outside of the aesthetics, is mainly to protect the substrate it is applied on. Polyurethane coatings, especially two components systems, are very appreciated for their outstanding performances, especially durability and outdoor weatherability. When health and environmental preoccupations started to be at the forefront, 2K polyurethane waterborne coatings became naturally a route to follow, especially to reduce Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in the formulations.
The challenge was above all to design waterborne formulations containing polyisocyanates which would be stable, regarding the reaction with water. Such a formulation should provide enough time to enable application and film formation with good end properties. Hydrophilic polyisocyanates were the answer and many synthesis routes were tried, each one having of course, advantages and drawbacks.
In this paper, we will present a study aiming to highlight differences regarding the nature of the hydrophilic polyisocyanates. Latest developments of Vencorex in this field will be also included.Note de contenu : - POLYISOCYANATE : HOW TO MAKE IT HYDROPHILIC ?

Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Painting on bridges has multifarious role : decoration, protection and functional. There have been lots of development in every sphere of painting system : surface preparation, primer to top coat, pain application equipments, etc. Environment, painting cost and performance of die coatings are the basic reasons behind the development of newer technology. New paint systems have been developed to meet low VOC requirement and facilitate painting comprise fewer layers compared to old paint systems having several layer of paints with high VOC. Present paint systems for bridges enable vert' long repair intervals. Painting conditions in workshops have improved considerably in the fast few years, and the risk of moisture condensing on the surface of steel before painting has been eliminated completely.
