Sels de borateIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : New photoinitiating systems composed of benzothiazolestyrylium dyes as chromophores and n-butyltriphenylborate anion as electron donor were prepared and characterised. Photoredox pairs consisting of hemicyanine dyes and organoborate salts may act as visible-light photoinitiators for the radical polymerisation of multifunctional acrylates. The efficiences of these photoinitiator systems are based on the free energy changes of an electron transfer from borate salt to the dye. Experimental results show that the photoinitiating ability of the photoredox pair tested strongly depends upon the reduction potential of hemicyanine dye, the oxidation potential of borate salt, and the structure of the dicationic dye. The basic physical properties of denim were measured using the Kawabata evaluation system for fabric. The results showed that biowashing increased softness and created a fade-out effect with natural colour; however, it reduced strength and elastic recovery as a result of damage to the cellulose by the enzyme. On the other hand, liquid ammonia treatment gave improved physical properties, which can be attributed to fast and uniform swelling, but resulted in a darker colour. Therefore, a combination of liquid ammonia treatment with biowashing is desirable in order to obtain a good fade-out effect while achieving softness, smoothness, and elastic recovery. The photoluminescence properties were studied. All three dyads exhibited intense solid-state blue emission peaking at 449–466 nm, and also displayed aggregation-induced emission behaviours. The emission decays of these dyads in the solid state also fitted well with a triexponential model with an average lifetime of 2.65–4.42 ns. The experimental results demonstrated that the luminescent properties are highly dependent on the nature of the organophosphorus groups. The choice of phosphorus-containing components can cause variations in the photoluminescence emission and photoluminescence decays. Séparation (technologie)Index. décimale : 620.197 Matériaux fibreux d'origine végétale et animale : textiles, papier Résumé : Deinked pulp is made from recycled paper in an industrial process called deinking. In this process, printing ink is removed from paper fibres. This research demonstrates the deinking process and discusses factors associated with the collection of released ink particles by bubbles. Flotation is introduced as a technology for the creation of ink-laden bubbles and for the removal of the ink-concentrated froth. A downward concurrent column reactor has been designed, manufactured, and used in a series of two-phase flow experiments. The objective is to measure the liquid and gas retention time to highlight the most effective features associated with bubble particle attachment/detachment. A residence time of <10 s in the downcomer and 20 s in total was found to be sufficient for the collection and recovery of ink particles. It has been concluded that concurrent column reactors are potentially efficient for removing ink from paper fibres. Note de contenu : - Column flotation for deinking

In this study, the performances of polyester/cotton blends dyed with high-fixation polymethylol dyes and disperse dyes were compared with those of polyester/cotton blends dyed with a mixture of reactive dyes and disperse dyes. Polymethylol dyes were observed to be suitable for dyeing polyester/cotton blends when used in low concentrations; the required concentrations of polymethylol dyes were only 23–58% of the concentrations of commercial reactive dyes required to reach a given colour level on polyester/cotton blends. The wash and crocking fastness of polyester/cotton blends dyed with polymethylol dyes were similar to those of polyester/cotton blends dyed with reactive dyes. PolyadditionIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : Bifunctional visible-light photoinitiators for free radical polymerisation based on a 1,4-naphthoquinone skeleton were synthesised and characterised using proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and chemical ionisation mass spectrometry. Their basic spectroscopic properties, such as absorption and low-temperature phosphorescence spectra, and their red-ox properties were also measured. These initiators contain an appropriate electron/hydrogen donor group in the skeleton and do not require an additional coinitiator for initiation. During irradiation they act both as a triplet photosensitiser and as a hydrogen/electron donor. The ability of each naphthoquinone to act as a photoinitiator strongly depends on its chemical structure. These studies suggest that initiator radicals are generated from the triplet state in an intermolecular electron/hydrogen transfer reaction. NitrophénolsIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : Among the vast series of phenolsulfonephthalein dyes, the nitro derivatives and especially 3,3?,5,5?-tetranitrophenolsulfonephthalein (nitrophenol crimson) remain practically unexplored, whereas the halogen and alkyl derivatives have been studied comprehensively. This striking difference is probably due to the enormous influence of the four NO2 groups on the properties of the dye. As a result, the protolytic behaviour is unlike even that of tetrabromo phenolsulfonephthalein, and the recognised scheme of acid–base and tautomeric equilibrium of the sulfonephthaleins is unable to explain it. The molecular form H2R was isolated as a sultonic tautomer, and an X-ray crystal structure analysis was carried out. Our studies of the UV-vis absorption spectra in water, methanol, dimethyl sulfoxide, acetonitrile, acetone, and dichloromethane, as well as in aqueous micellar solutions of surfactants, allowed us to evaluate the true molar absorptivity of the dianion R2?, and to elucidate the enormous tendency to form yellow trianionic carbinol ROH3?, even in the presence of traces of H2O. Nuclear magnetic resonance and electrospray data confirm the proposed scheme of ionisation and tautomerism of nitrophenol crimson. Dioxyde de titaneIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : In this study, silver- or copper-doped TiO2–Ce-, TiO2–La-, and commercial TiO2 (P25)-supported catalysts were prepared. The catalysts and supports were characterised by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption studies. UV-light-assisted heterogeneous Fenton-like oxidation of two different-structure dyes (anionic azo dye Orange II, CI Acid Orange 7 and cationic triphenylmethane dye Crystal Violet, CI Basic Violet 3) was investigated over the catalysts. Higher catalytic activity was observed in the oxidation of Orange II than in the oxidation of Crystal Violet. For both dyes, the TiO2–Ce and TiO2–La-supported catalysts, which were in the form of anatase only, gave higher photocatalytic activity than the P25-supported catalysts, which were in the form of anatase and rutile. Complete colour removal was observed during oxidation of Orange II over Cu/TiO2–Ce and Cu/TiO2–La catalysts, whereas the highest degree of decolorisation, 89.3%, was achieved by oxidation of Crystal Violet over Ag/TiO2–Ce. The pH of the solution affected the surface state of the TiO2, thus affecting the photocatalytic degradation of the dyes. The surface area of the catalysts is also a key parameter that influences their photocatalytic activity. It was observed that catalysts having higher surface areas brought about greater dye degradation. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL STUDY : Materials - Catalyst preparation - Catalyst characterisation

Oleo Sci., 59, (2010) 151]. Here we describe how an azobenzene derivative, bis[4-(ethoxycarbonylmethoxy)phenyl]diazene, also forms gold-coloured crystals after recrystallisation from a mixture of acetone and water. The profile of the specular reflectance as a function of wavelength for the crystals is very similar to that for metallic gold plate, indicating that the crystals have a golden colour. The maximum specular reflectance of the crystals is 16%. Atomic force microscopy observation shows that the crystals have flat surfaces. X-ray diffraction measurements demonstrate the presence of a periodic structure in the crystals, which indicates that monolayers (lamellar structure) consisting of azobenzene molecules with a thickness of 1.42 nm are stacked in the crystals. The gold-coloured crystals are tolerant of ultraviolet light irradiation. The gold-coloured crystals may be useful as a substitute for conventional metallic pigments in specific coating applications. The accelerating effect, corresponding adsorption kinetics, and interaction mechanisms among hexyl dimethyl octyl ammonium chloride, reactive dyes, and silk were investigated. At hexyl dimethyl octyl ammonium chloride concentrations of 10.8–14.4 mm, the dye fixations for three reactive dyes were much higher than those achieved with sodium sulfate, even though the required dosages of hexyl dimethyl octyl ammonium chloride were 30–40 times lower than those of sodium sulfate. The wash fastness, rub fastness, light fastness, K/S, and colour difference values after dyeing with hexyl dimethyl octyl ammonium chloride were similar to those obtained using sodium sulfate, and silk can be dyed uniformly. The adsorption kinetics followed a second-order kinetic model. The activation energies of surface adsorption for the three reactive dyes were lower than those of sodium sulfate. The high fixation of reactive dyestuffs and the low required dosage of hexyl dimethyl octyl ammonium chloride demonstrate that the use of this new accelerant provides a novel, highly efficient method for silk dyeing. A possible acceleration mechanism of hexyl dimethyl octyl ammonium chloride for reactive dyes adsorbed on the surface of silk was proposed, based on a series of activation parameters of the adsorption process.
