The study describes the possibility of preparing zinc–zinc phosphate composite coatings by cathodic electrochemical treatment using dilute phosphoric acid as an electrolyte and zinc as an anode. The methodology enables the preparation of coatings with different proportions of zinc and zinc phosphate by suitably varying the applied current density, pH, and treatment time. Adhesion of the coating on mild steel and adhesion of paint film on the phosphate coating were found to be good. The surface morphology of the coatings exhibited platelet-type features and small white crystals (agglomerated at some places) which represented zinc and zinc phosphate, respectively. An increase in current density (from 20 to 50 mA/cm2) increased the size of the zinc crystals, and coatings prepared at 40 and 50 mA/cm2 resembled that of electrodeposited zinc. Since the proportions of zinc and zinc phosphate could be varied with applied current density, pH, and treatment time, it would be possible to use this methodology to prepare coatings that would offer different degrees of corrosion protection.

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Phosphate pretreatment plays a vital role in the finishing of the automotive chassis and/or some special assemblies. The ever changing needs of the customer, necessitates the manufacturer to introduce new materials and paint finishes. However, such modifications induced severe complexity in the process stages, calling for an effective process control system. With the use of electrochemical measurements, an effective correlation of the quantitative values of the characteristic properties of the phosphate coating with the control charts of the actual production runs for every lot can be established. Note de contenu : - Data points to be correlated with control charts
- Use of electrochemical measurements isn't simply desirable but mandatory
- Two methods are highly reliable assessing porosity of phosphate coatings

(Wikipedia)
Matériaux -- BiodégradationIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The effectiveness of hydroxyapatite (HA) coating prepared by electrodeposition technique in improving the corrosion resistance of commercially pure magnesium (CP-Mg) in simulated body fluid (SBF) is addressed. The coating formed in as-deposited condition is identified as dicalcium phosphate dehydrate (DCPD) (Brushite), which is converted to HA after immersion in 1 M NaOH at 80°C for 2 h. The XRD patterns and FTIR spectra confirm the formation of DCPD and HA. During electrodeposition, the H2PO4 − ion is reduced and the reaction between Ca2+ ions and the reduced phosphate ions leads to the formation of DCPD, which is converted to HA following treatment in NaOH. The deposition of HA coating enables a threefold increase in the corrosion resistance of CP-Mg. The ability to offer a significant improvement in corrosion resistance coupled with the bioactive characteristics of the HA coating establish that electrodeposition of HA is a viable approach to engineer the surface of CP-Mg in the development of Mg-based degradable implant materials. The corrosion resistant behaviour of siliconized epoxy coating systems with 25% zinc powder cured with four different curatives has been investigated by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The results are comparable with those obtained from neutral salt spray tests. The siloxane (10%) modified epoxy coating system A with 25% zinc powder cured by hexamethylene diamine offers maximum corrosion protection to steel surface.
