Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The frequent occurrence of fire accidents across the country in recent years, causing heavy property losses and loss of human life are shocking. Therefore the development of a good flame retardant resin is required. The original fire retardant polyester resin formulation incorporated bromine and chlorine into the polymer. The disadvantages to these formulations were excessive toxic products and smoke given off on exposure to flame. Alumina trihydrate has successfully been added to non-halogenated polyester resin to resolve the toxicity and smoke issues. Most of the fire retardant coatings lose their effectiveness as fire resistant because of reduced char formation. Nano sized layered double hydroxides (LDH) can improve the properties of fire retardant coatings. Also, nano cement has the potential to create a new paradigm in this area of application. Revêtements en bâtiment:Peinture en bâtimentIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Global concerns of environmental pollution and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission has led growing legislative stringency to be more tightened in present scenario. Increased consumer/user awareness towards green and sustainable chemistry is a demanding factor for major coatings and raw material suppliers to direct their efforts, either in the area of reformulating their existing product formulations or adopt new approaches to meet the requirements. Architectural coatings occupy around 55% portion of the total global coating consumption. Ultra low and Zero VOC coatings with low odor are the need of the hour for sustaining the business as well as future of the coating industry. This review article highlights the progress in the area of designing green architectural coatings with special focus on water based paints including the processing and chemistry of emulsion polymers viz. acrylics, VeoVa, EVA and waterborne alkyd technology for glossy finishes. Some critical paint ingredients which are major contributors of VOC like coalescing aids, rheology modifiers, surfactants and other additives are also being addressed with reference to legislative aspects. Further alternatives over depleting petro-products such as biochemicals (bio- monomers) and renewable sources of raw materials to ensure sustainability are discussed. Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Recently, inorganic-organic hybrid coatings produced by the sol-gel route have proven to be a potential protective treatment. Sol-gel process is one of the simplest techniques to prepare thin films. The quality of the prepared films depends on the parameters of the sol-gel process and the used technique. A variety of the sol-gel derived coating has been prepared for different applications. Comprehensive review papers have been made regularly in the past three decades by outstanding scientists such as Makaenzie, Sakka, Zarzycki, Schmidt, Uhlmann, Livage, Ulrich, Brinker, etc. Here we are presenting a review on the sol gel derived coatings. The description of the process is introduced in details. Different sol-gel deposition techniques are mentioned. Note de contenu : - COATING TECHNOLOGIES : 1. Dip coating techniques - 2. Vernis en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Compared with solventborne systems, traditional waterborne parquet coatings lack various properties such as scuff- and chemical resistance. Several approaches have been investigated in the past to overcome these drawbacks, but many of them where not totally successful. News generations of raw materials for manually applied parquet coatings (waterborne one- and two-component) and industrial application (UV-curing parquet coatings) were developed. Each represents remarkable progress in its particular field of application. These new systems are discussed with respect to their properties and polymer structure. Note de contenu : - WHAT IS PARQUET

CorrosionIndex. décimale : 620.17 Métaux ferreux (fer et acier) et leurs alliages Résumé : Stainless steels are generally very corrosion resistant and will perform satisfactorily in most environments. The limit of corrosion resistance of a given stainless steel depends on its constituent elements which means that each grade has a slightly different response when exposed to a corrosive environment Care is therefore needed to select the most appropriate grade of stainless steel for a given application. As well as careful material grade selection, good detailing and workmanship can significantly reduce the likehood of staining and corrosion. Note de contenu : - Pitting corrosion
