Sixty male and female groups panelists were included in the test: two groups of Asians, defined according their color typology (as measured with a Chromameter: I.T.A.°:28-41° or 41-60°), and one group of Caucasians (I.T.A.°: 41-60°) in order to make a possible correlation with the light colored Asians.
Results showed statistically significantly higher SPF in the lighter Asian skin group (I.T.A.°:41-60°) compared to the Caucasian group with similar skin color for the sunscreens with SPF 15 and 30,whereas no significant difference was observed for FDA and COLIPA standards, not for the SPF 6/8 sunscreen.
These results show that differences in SPF between Asian and Caucasian skin exist. These differences are clearly present for the high SPF sunscreens and might not be only explained by skin color but also by other internal or external factors affecting skin response to UV.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10673
