RetannageIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : The retanning process plays an important role in optimizing the leather’s colour, levelness, softness, fullness, and hydrophobicity. Polymer retanning agents are important materials for this process. The present study used maleic anhydride modified castor oil (MCO), PEG1000 (polyethylene glycol) and IPDI (isophorone diisocyanate) as main materials to synthesize polyurethane microemulsions (MC-PURs) and employed them to retan chrometanned leathers. The hydroxyl functionality of MCO was investigated by chemical and 1HNMR analysis, and confirmed to be about 2.0. The chemical structures of MCO, prepolymer and MC-PUR were characterized by IR.
The optimized synthesis formulation and polyurethane microemulsion MC-PUR3 for MC-PURs as retanning agent was selected by comparing the properties of retanned leathers, such as softness, fullness, grain tightness, tensile strength, extension at break, depth of shade, waterproof properties et al. Then, MC-PUR3 was characterized by means of DSC, TG/DTG and TEM techniques. SEM microgram of MC-PUR3 retanned leather shows that the fibres are well dispersed.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Preparation of maleic anhydride modified castor oil (MCO) - Preparation of microemulsions of polyurethane filling retanning agents (MC-PURs) - Determination of molecular weight - H n.m.r. spectroscopy - Purification - FT-IR spectroscopy - Differential scanning spectroscopy - Thermo-gravimetric analysis - Transmission electron microscope analysis - Measurement of final dyebath exhaustion - Physical and waterproofness properties of leathers - Organoleptic properties of the final leathers - Scanning electron microscopic analysis

Fibrilles de collagèneLa fibrille de collagène est une structure constituée d'un assemblage de fibres de tropocollagène (assemblage de 3 protéines de collagène alpha (alpha 1 - alpha 1 - alpha 2) en une hélice droite.
RetannageIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In this article, the topology of fibrils and the aggregate structure of leather fibres were characterised by TEM and SEM to reveal the effects of PAA on the different scale of the structure of leather. The results show that PAA has little influence on the collagen molecules array and collagen fibres aggregate structure in the wet state. But, during air-drying PAA observably influences the collagen fibres aggregate structure. After being PAA retanned, the air-dried leather fibres become thinner and the space between fibres increases. It was found that although the unique axial periodic (d periodicity) structure of collagen fibrils and orderly arrangement of collagen molecule did not change obviously alter the introduction of PAA, the aggregation behaviour of collagen fibres was greatly influenced. With increasing concentration of PAA, the order of intermolecular lateral packing decreased, the shrinkage of the leather lessened [from changes in surface morphology observed by SEM] and the dry heat stability of collagen fibre declined due to a decrease in the orderly degree of collagen fibre aggregation.

Tannage Résumé : Highly branched polymers (HBPs) were prepared via free-radical polymerization of methacrylic acid (MAA) with polyfunctional allyl co-monomer (mono-trimethylolpropan trimaleate, PTPTM) at various n(MAA)/n(MTPTM) ratios. HBPs were employed in retanning wet-blue pigskins and the retanned leathers were evaluated by their physical properties such as tensile strength, tear strength, extension at break and organoleptic properties including softness, fullness, smoothness and tightness. The results showed that HBPs did well in filling and retanning leather and especially in the case of n(MAA)/n(MTPTM) = 12:1 (HBP-4). HBP-4 was characterized by HNMR, SEC, DSC and TGA, the results indcated that the polymer showed polydispersity (PDI = 1.456, Mw 27,024, Mn 15 566), its TG/DTG curves showed two-stage decomposition with two weight loss temperature maxima (206.38°C and 429.57°C), the single glass transition on the DSC curve and the Tg (209.98°C) which was lower than that of poly-methacrylic acid (227.85°C) implies that HBP-4 molecules have better flexibility than PMMA and there is no phase separation in the polymer. RetannageIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Polyacrylic acid retanning agent (PAA), PAA-1 and PAA-2 with weight average molecular weights (Mw) of 14.4 x 103 and 23.1 x 103g/mol respectively, were prepared by water solution homopolymerization of acrylic acid monomer. The effects of molecular weight and moisture absorbency on glass transition temperature (T) and mechanical properties of PAA were investigated. The results showed that PAA-1 and PAA-2 have similar capacity for moisture absorbency, namely about 14.5% at 20°C(T=20°C) and 65% relative humidity (RH=65%). After equilibrating for 48 hours at T=20°C, RH=65%, the T of PAA-1 and PAA-2 fell from 86.17°C and 90.71°C to -11.44°C and -3.09°C respectively. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) showed the storage moduli of PAA-1 and PAA-2 were significantly decreased at -26.99°C and -8.78°C respectively, the storage modulus of PAA-2 was higher than that of PAA-1 due to its higher molecular weight.
