Résumé : |
The different reactivity of the aliphatic and cycloaliphatic isocyanate group of Vestanat IPDI (isophorone diisocyanate) using various catalysts is presented. DBTL proved to be the most suitable catalyst for prepolymer synthesis - which is ideally performed at 40-60°C- under consideration of viscosity, monomer content and economical reasons. IPDI prepolymers based on various polymeric polyols were synthesized and their viscosity and content of monomeric IPDI was determined. Using these advantages Vestanat IPDI is the ideal isocyanate for the creation of light stable coatings based on PU-dispersions. By means of experimental data the formation and properties of PU-dispersions and coatings obtained from them is discussed. Vestanat T 1890 is the isocyanurate-trimer of IPDI and widely used as hardener in 2-pack polyurethane systems. The properties and application of Vestanat T 1890 in this field is described with special focus on alkyd resins and blending of HDI-trimer with IPDI-trimer. Non-drying short- and medium oil alkyds as well as air-drying medium-and long oil alkyds can be combined with Vestanat T 1890. By means of a short oil coco alkyd the advantages of this technique are presented. A coating with superior performance is obtained which shows comparable properties to 2-pack acrylic-PU systems. Air-drying alkyds, when combined with Vestanat T 1890 as reactive diluent, show a significant shorter dust-free time and superior weathering durability. Blending of HDI-trimer with Vestanat T 1890 has many advantages which is also presented by means of experimental data. Without change of pot-life not only a shorter dust-free time can be achieved but also the acid etch resistance is improved significantly. |
