Textiles et tissus -- Teneur en eauIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In the present study, the effect of various levels of bulk and free water content and its distribution on the colour of cotton fabrics dyed with direct dyes and their combinations were analysed. Twill and plain structures with two different parameters of fabric construction were chosen. The dyed samples were adjusted to different levels of wet pick-up, with water ranging from 50% to 125% on the bone dry weight of the fabric (odwf) to achieve various levels of bulk water content. Further, the residual moisture content of the samples was adjusted to 40–10% odwf by means of hot air drying at different temperatures to obtain different levels of free water content and its distribution. For the assessment of colour and its comparison, the parameters ΣK/S and inline image values were used. In order to bring out the true effect of moisture distribution and fabric structure, normalisation of dye uptake in the fabric based on weight and area were considered, respectively. The plain structures show a higher increase in colour than the twill structures when the bulk water content increases. At the same time, the fabric structures do not play a significant role, with increase in colour attributable to change in drying temperature. The findings reveal that the bulk water content, drying temperature and fabric geometry affects the colour of the fabric significantly. Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The dyeing characteristics of lawsone–indigo mixtures on wool and their electrochemical properties were studied as a model for natural dyeing. To determine the optimum conditions for dyeing, experiments with different levels of pH in the oxidising and reducing states were performed. The dyeing characteristics on wool were studied using basic colour measurement. The colour depth of the dyeings was strongly dependent on the pH of the solution. Dyeing of lawsone in oxidising and reducing states at pH 4–6 showed the highest colour depth. For lawsone–indigo mixtures, the pH of the maximum colour strength shifted to pH 6–7. The dyeing properties of henna showed similar behaviour to the lawsone dyeing. The electrochemical properties of the lawsone–indigo mixtures were studied using cyclic voltammetry. The cathodic peak current increased with the increasing lawsone concentration. Furthermore, the cathodic peak current of the lawsone–indigo mixtures, which was less than the cathodic peak current of pure lawsone, indicates the sorption of lawsone molecules on the surface of dispersed indigo. Ozonation
Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : This work has focused on the use of ozonation in order to improve the dyeability of mohair fibres. The study was carried out using a known concentration of ozone and involved process parameters such as wet pick-up, level of pH and treatment time. The effect of fibre ozonation was assessed in terms of colour, and test samples were also evaluated using scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform–infrared spectroscopy. The optimum conditions of the ozonation process were determined as 60% wet pick-up, pH 7 and 30 min. According to the experimental results, it can be concluded that ozonated mohair fibres can be dyed both at 90 and 80 °C with all dye classes without causing any decrease in colour yield. Dyeing kinetics and thermodynamics were also studied and it was demonstrated that the rate constant and the standard affinity of the ozonated sample increased. Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The colour of electrochromic fabric, and its colour transitions, was explored on the basis of variations in underlying fabric colour. A complete understanding of this phenomenon is essential for the fabric’s use in full-colour wearable displays or other applications. Previous work in this area utilised only white-coloured starting materials. Herein, a large colour swathe of fabrics was chosen. They were loaded with the commercially available conducting polymer, PEDOT-PSS, and were coated with an electrochromic polymer. These all-organic substrates were then switched between their two coloured states via reversible oxidation and reduction. At every stage, coordinates in the CIE Lu′v′ colour space were measured. It was found that darker colours decrease the overall contrast of the electrochromic, with black being entirely unobservable. More vibrant colours affected the observed colour through a subtractive mixing effect, as expected, but no adverse contrast effects between the two states of the electrochromic system was observed.

Vapeur d'eauIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The aim of this study was the development of a prototype machine for the processing of fabrics, which can be used as a reactor for the continuous finishing processes. The optimum applicator design for fabrics was developed in accordance with laboratory-scale experimental studies. Reactive printed samples were treated with the combination of radio frequency and steam in order to take advantage of the steam energy and to improve energy absorption. The colour yields of the samples fixated with the combination of radio frequency and steam energy were compared with conventional steaming (10 min) and thermofixation (5 min) processes. It was observed that steam-assisted radio frequency fixation ensured similar colour yields in a shorter setting time (3 min) compared with conventional methods. It was concluded that the new system could be an alternative method of setting, with the advantages of time savings and lower energy consumption. Noir de carboneIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Drop-on-demand ink-jet inks prepared from dyes usually show inadequate light and water fastness. Thus, in our previous paper, we studied black pigmented ink-jet inks with the aim of overcoming the drawbacks of dye-based ink by employing a variety of synthetic dispersants with gas black. In this study, pigmented ink-jet inks were prepared by a combination of the synthetic dispersant and the surface treatments of a furnace black that is more common than gas blacks. The results of this study show that the surface treatment of the furnace black and the use of the synthetic dispersant are useful in the preparation of ink-jet inks and endow them with properties that are comparable with those of commercial ink-jet inks. The prints were cured and after-treated using conventional processes. Printed and unprinted fabrics were finished with low-formaldehyde resin in a pad–dry–cure process. The mechanical properties (i.e. mass per unit area, flexural rigidity, tenacity at maximum load, wrinkle recovery angles and air permeability) with characteristics of printed and easy-care finished fabrics were measured and the mutual influence of printing and finishing on these properties was discussed. Moreover, the colour difference between the finished and unfinished printed samples was measured, and the colour fastness to washing, appearance of fabrics after domestic washing, colour fastness to rubbing and light was compared.
On distingue trois types.
SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Laccase (benzenediol, oxidoreducase; Enzyme Commission Number) is a multi-copper oxidase from biomass. Laccase enzyme recycling on molecular oxygen as an electron acceptor can be applied for the decolorisation of synthetic dyes. The decolorisation of 49 commercial reactive dyes using laccase was investigated. The effects of diverse structure surfactants on decolorisation are discussed. The absorption spectra of reactive dyes after a laccase biodegradable reaction were analysed. Reactive dyes based on anthraquinone and azo structures could be decolorised using the enzyme and their chemical structures broken. Reactive dyes based on an anthraquinone structure were easier to decolorise than those based on an azo structure. Surfactants could affect the decolorisation of dyes with an enzyme. The effect of nonionic surfactant on the decolorisation of anthraquinone dyes was the reverse. The cationic surfactant could improve the decolorisation rate of diazo dye. The effect of the anionic surfactant on dye decolorisation was small. Most commercial reactive dyes could be decolorised and biodegraded using a laccase enzyme under mild conditions. Laccase enzyme biotechnology has potential applications in the decolorisation of reactive dye wastewater. Teinture -- Fibres textiles synthétiquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Aramid fabrics were photo-oxidised by ultraviolet/ozone irradiation. The surface properties of the modified fabrics were characterised by reflectance, attenuated total reflectance, electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis and surface zeta potential. The ultraviolet irradiation caused the oxygen content of the aramid fabric surface to increase, with the appearance of carbonyl and hydroxyl groups, and reduced the surface zeta potential, coupled with improved water wettability. Moreover, the crystalline structure did not change after ultraviolet/ozone treatment according to X-ray diffraction results. The modified aramid fabrics showed higher affinity to cationic dyes, which may have resulted from the newly introduced electrostatic interaction between cationic dyes and anionic dyeing sites on the photo-oxidised surface layers. Although colour fastness to both staining and rubbing were good to excellent, colour fastness to shade change was moderate. Furthermore, the ultraviolet/ozone pretreatment and cationic dyeing of aramid fabrics may overcome the loss in the mechanical properties associated with previously recommended dyeing methods for aramid fabrics.

Adsorption kinetic and thermodynamic studies of these colour components on silk yarn have been investigated. It is noted that the adsorption is an endothermic process. The dyeing studies have been carried out at pH 4. The mordanting studies revealed that the post-mordanting technique could only increase the dye performance marginally. The fastness properties of the dyed silk were determined. The adsorption isotherm studies showed that the Langmuir model fitted the experimental data very well with a high regression coefficient.
