[article]

PolydopamineIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : We combine the active surface of polydopamine (PDA) with the biomimetic mineralization of CaCO3 to obtain the macroscopically continuous CaCO3 films under mild conditions. In this approach, the organic matrices were adhesive PDA coatings, which were dip-coated on silicon wafers by the self-polymerization of dopamine in an alkaline aqueous solution (pH 8.5). The inorganic layers were CaCO3 films, which were formed in a CaCl2 solution in the presence of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) via a CO2 diffusion method. During the biomimetic mineralization, amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) was formed on PDA matrices with the help of PAA, which, subsequently, was transformed into a flat continuous calcite film on the PDA matrices. As the mineralization time increased, a new layer of CaCO3 crystals was formed over the calcite and, as a result, led to continuous CaCO3 films with rough surfaces. The thicknesses of CaCO3 films can be controlled by tuning the mineralization time. Our approach may provide a simple, yet efficient way for the preparation of macroscopically continuous organic–inorganic composite CaCO3 films under mild conditions. Moreover, superhydrophobic surfaces can be successfully achieved via a hydrophobic modification of the rough CaCO3 films, which make them suitable candidates for a variety of superhydrophobic applications, such as self-cleaning surfaces or anticorrosion, antiadhesive coatings.
(Wikipedia)

Tannage Résumé : The current study focuses on the isolation of Bacillus cerus from mangrove rhizosphere and its ability to treat semi-chrome process liquor of upper leathers. This strain has been identified by its molecular characteristics (16s rRNA sequencing) and confirmation has been obtained from neighbor joining tree. Minimum inhibitory concentration of the strain has been found to be 50 ppm. The growth pattern of this organism has been investigated in the presence of chromium, which showed the bacterial strain can grow luxuriantly at 50 and 100 ppm concentration of chromium. Biosorption study has been conducted at different concentrations (50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 ppm) of chromium. The biosorption capability of Bacillus cerus has been found to be 80.78, 73.19, 65.86, 59.44 and 39.27% for 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 ppm respectively. Chromium sorption from the semi-chrome process liquor by Bacillus cerus has also been investigated, which showed a reduction of 76.15, 68.56, 61.63, 56.29 and 36.51% against 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 ppm of chromium. Sorption characterization has been carried out by FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) analyses and the results confirmed the presence of sorption of chromium in Bacillus cerus. Polysaccharides microbiensIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Emergencies often result in uncontrollable bleeding, which is thought to be the leading cause of death at the scene of the injured. Among various hemostasis scenarios, collagen fiber (CF) is gradually replacing traditional hemostatic materials due to its superior properties and ease of sourcing from animals. Herein, we use CF and the natural herbaceous Bletilla striata as raw materials to prepare a collagen fiber-oxidized Bletilla striata composite hemostatic sponge (CFOB). During the cross-linking process, the triple helix structure of collagen stays intact, and its porous three-dimensional network structure brings excellent bulkiness and water absorption properties. Experiments show that the optimal amount of sponge CFOB-10, namely oxidized Bletilla striata polysaccharide 0.5 mg/mL and CF 5 mg/mL, only needed 25 ± 4.06 s for hemostasis time in the rat liver hemorrhage model. In addition, CFOB meets the safety performance requirements of cytotoxicity classification standard 0. Therefore, the optimal amount of CFOB is an excellent new hemostatic material with application potential. The photoluminescence properties were studied. All three dyads exhibited intense solid-state blue emission peaking at 449–466 nm, and also displayed aggregation-induced emission behaviours. The emission decays of these dyads in the solid state also fitted well with a triexponential model with an average lifetime of 2.65–4.42 ns. The experimental results demonstrated that the luminescent properties are highly dependent on the nature of the organophosphorus groups. The choice of phosphorus-containing components can cause variations in the photoluminescence emission and photoluminescence decays.

Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this paper, we present a combined morphological and optical characterization of aluminum-coated thermoplastic polymer surfaces. Flat plastic substrates, obtained by means of an injection molding process starting from plastic granules, were coated with ultra-thin aluminum films evaporated in vacuo, on top of which a silicon-based protective layer was plasma deposited in order to prevent oxidation of the metal reflective surface. Different sample treatments were studied to unravel the influence of substrate chemistry, substrate thickness, aluminum and protective layer thickness, and surface roughness on the actual optical reflectance properties. Bidirectional reflectance distribution function measurements, corroborated by surface morphological information obtained by means of atomic force microscopy, correlate reflectance characteristics with the root-mean-square surface roughness, providing evidence for the role of the substrate and the thin films’ morphology. The results unravel information of interest within many applicative fields involving metal coating processes of plastic substrates as an example in the case of automotive lighting.
